For those who might want to know, the Mount Wilson LA transmitter sites are now on fire. KTLA is showing pictures of the area and buildings burning up there.

Most LA broadcasters have transmitters and other gear up there.

They’re also live on Youtube, as are several other channels in Los Angeles.

And it's not just KTLA.

It's almost all of them.

"Most of Los Angeles’ TV stations broadcast from Mt. Wilson, including KCBS (CBS 2), KNBC (NBC 4), KTLA (Channel 5), KABC (ABC 7), KCAL (Channel 9), KTTV (Fox 11), KCOP (Channel 13), KCET (PBS SoCal 2 Channel 28), KOCE (PBS SoCal 1 Channel 50) and KMEX (Univision 34).

FM stations broadcasting from there include KPCC-FM 89.3, KPFK-FM 90.7, KUSC-FM 91.5, KRRL-FM 92.3, KCBS-FM 93.1, KLLI-FM 93.9, KTWV 94.7, KLOS-FM 95.5, KNX-FM 97.1, KKLA-FM 99.5, KKLQ-FM 100.3, KRTH-FM 101.1, KSCA-FM 101.9, KIIS-FM 102.7, KOST-FM 103.5, KBIG-FM 104.3, KKGO-FM 105.1, KPWR-FM 105.9 and KLVE-FM 107.5."

If you're looking for information on how TV crews are dealing with the fires in LA, check out crewstoriesig on Instagram. There have been posts over the last 24 hours from anonymous crew members on some U.S. network shows being told they have to continue working despite fires being in close proximity to sets and location shots, as well as tales of crew members and actors breaking down on set after learning that their homes have been severely damaged or, in some cases, destroyed by the fires. Truly a sad time.

CBC News Network had US based freelance reporter Steve Futterman reporting live in Wednesday from the L.A, area..
On one of his live reports, I thought I heard Futterman say that it is believed, but not confirmed, that the Pacific Palisades fire started due to a suspected transmitter fire...? I may have misheard him, and later thought that he meant or said transformer fire... I checked some different news feeds, but could not find a reference to a possible transmitter fire.

I'm not not faulting Mr. Futterman, It could very well be that I misheard him. But due to the nature of events like this, the reference to a transmitter fire being the cause may have circulated by local emergency authorities and he went with it, and later dropped it if it was determined not to be the confirmed cause.

So far, only one TV station has seen its signal knocked off the air. But it's a big one.

KTLA is also on most cable systems in Canada thankfully.

KUSC Los Angeles was announcing (around 9.a.m. Eastern time Friday) on their morning show that their transmitter had been damaged and they were running at low power (probably an aux TX somewhere else). The morning show was being originated from another classical station in San Francisco. Hope that John van Dreil and his family are ok. He is in management at KUSC - he was for many years the GM at CFMX and then CFMZ toronto. John is a great guy.
