The Southern Ontario/WNY Radio-TV Forum / Roger Ashby Oldies Show ending next weekend

Just before the end of yesterday's show, Roger Ashby announced that it was his second-last show and that the final one will be airing next weekend. I'll really miss it, but it had a very good five-year run especially considering how there are so few stations now that play music from the 50s and 60s. No word on what will happen to the show's iHeart channel, but for the time being it's still available, and the three-show rotation was updated today to include yesterday's show.

After it ends, they should keep the stream on iheart radio like they have for classic American top

Yes, I regularly listen to the Classic American Top 40 shows, and I also think that it would be great if iHeart would similarly rotate Roger's shows from the past five years.

Well, Roger is 75/76 years old now, that would be reason enough. Besides he has almost 5 years of programming and roughly 540 hours of mostly undated material. They could easily continue syndication if they wanted, but I think his show is down to a handful of stations now. I will absolutely be listening this weekend.

Who knows, maybe years from now the program could get back on the air for another run. Or as mentioned iHeart will just keep it up on their site.

I haven't listened to the show for some time now, but the first few years, I listened every weekend. I actually was the first to request a song. Show #2 The Flirtations, Nothing But A Heartache.

Losing 88.5 which gave them Toronto clearance for the spots definitely didn't help.

Very proud to have created all of the imaging and IDs for the Roger Ashby Oldies Show from the very beginning to the very end. Roger's former CHUM FM morning show producer Tom Jokic and I also supplied many of the artist interview clips over the past 5 years.

Thanks Rog. A great run. I don't think he's exactly ready to retire yet either.

Very much appreciate all that you and Tom have done for the show ... the imaging, IDs, and interview clips have all been part of what I've liked about it. And given that Roger has still been doing such a great job of putting everything together in what I've felt is a labour of love for him, I'm also hoping that there might be a place for him somewhere else if he'd like to continue on in some other way.

Congratulations Doug Thompson and Tom Jokic for all of the great work on Roger's show over the years. If Roger is not ready to retire just yet, maybe something on Zoomer 740? He would be a great fit, and back on Toronto radio where he belongs. Or how about a weekend oldies show on CBC Radio One, or weekly podcast? A bit of a stretch but anything is possible.

It's sad to see this show go, although I haven't really been able to listen much since it went off of CKDX.

There is a replacement of sorts - someone here already mentioned the reroll of the original "American Top 40" with Casey Kasem. It can be heard in this area on CKPC-FM Brantford at 92.1 Saturdays from 8AM-noon and again on Sundays from 5-9 PM.

I stumbled upon it this weekend and it was fun to hear it again.

If you're into online listening, there's a station in a place called Quispamsis, New Brunswick, in the St. John area, that really goes hog wild on some of these replays. Oldies 96, as it's branded, also aired Ashby's show, and follows it with "Live From The 60s With The Real Don Steele," the late but very well remembered California jock, "The Wolfman Jack Show," and "Back To The 70s," and "American Hit List," both hosted by M.G. Kelly, another L.A. radio veteran.

Another good option but not Canadian as the true oldies channel.
You don't nead a VPN to stream it.

Daryl MacLean's Beach Party is on CKDO and 92.9 The Grand Friday and Saturday Nights. And these two stations are all oldies anyway. Daryl puts a lot of effort in the show and takes requests across Canada.

I love his show, but now that I've grown up, I can never find the time to listen.
I remember going to my aunt's camper/summer trailer and tuning her clock radio to sunshine 89 in orilia for the beach party.
Because I grew up listening to the oldies, I as an 11 year old in 2011 loved the music and the upbeat nature of the host.
