The Southern Ontario/WNY Radio-TV Forum / CBS' "Watson" Is Not 'What's On' WIVB

CBS made a big deal about debuting the new series "Watson," based on Sherlock Holmes' old helper, after the NFL game Sunday night. But because the Bills were involved, WIVB decided to interrupt the highly anticipated show for a longer Bills post-game (and in this case, post mortem) show.

Instead, with little notice, they've switched the debut to around 12:40 AM after the Stephen Colbert Sunday Special. If you set your DVR to catch the show at its scheduled time and you're reading this Sunday night, there may still be time to adjust the record time. The Bills post-game also ran long, so you may need to add extra time.

I'm not a sports fan, but I have to say I do feel sorry for Bills fans. They remind me of Toronto supporters - always close but in the end, they seem to just miss the mark every single year. I sometimes tune in WGR-AM after something like this, to hear the fans call in demanding everyone should be fired. It's an annual ritual and it never fails to happen after every Buffalo team loss.

Global was also airing "Watson" late. I set my Plex Server to record it on Global using an OTA, and when I checked it Monday morning, it was Border Security for the first nineteen minutes. I only set the recording to stop two minutes after the scheduled end time. I don't have StackTV either, but globaltv.com looks like it has the first episode available without the requirement of needing a cable provider login.

It's also weird that the second episode doesn't air until mid-February, probably because of the Superbowl. Why doesn't CBS wait until the NFL season is finished before airing the first episode? No wonder people are giving up broadcast TV in general.

I wasn't even aware it was on Global. Looks like they were waiting for the game to finish so they could attempt a simulcast. What they didn't know, in Toronto at least, was that Channel 4 in Buffalo had other plans for a very lengthy local post game show, which kept Watson off the air until just before 1 AM - by which time I'm guessing few were watching.

By the way, if the Global site doesn't work, you can watch it on CBS.com with a U.S.-set VPN. CBS is good for this- they generally keep new episodes up on their sites for at least a week, until it goes behind the Paramount-Plus paywall, never to be seen for free again.

Worth a look there if you're so inclined, but don't wait too long.

KING 5 in Seattle sometimes delays the NBC primetime lineup until 3AM when they air NHL Kracken games.

I assume that's midnight local time.
