It’s a different answer for everyone here, but if you’re curious about what the big hit was in the year you came into this world, you can find the list going all the way back to 1946 in the article below. Because this is listed as “The Boomer” edition, it only goes until 1964. But it’s filled with some pretty memorable tunes.

Not a boomer myself, but born this week in 1983 (early millennial) to boomer parents, and this classic from The Police was the big song at the time.

Let It Be, by the Fab Four, for April 8 1970.  For the whole year, it was Bridge Over Troubled Water by Simon and Garfunkel.  My personal favourite from 1970 was Tighter, Tighter by Alive and Kicking.

Hi Jody,

I have a birth year in common with you, January 1970. The number one song when I was born was Raindrops Keep Falling on My Head by BJ Thomas. I remember them playing that song all the time in my elementary school in Hamilton in the mid to late 70s.

This article is more extensive and includes Boomers and beyond. In fact, it starts listings in the 1920s and goes all the way to 2023!

I can go one step further. I can tell you the number one song the week you were born going back to 1940. I have all the Joel Whitburn Pop Music Album and Singles books. Ask away. I will gladly respond.

The #1 song of 1967, the year I was born, was "To Sir, With Love" by Lulu. The #1 song the week I was born was "I'm a Believer" by The Monkees.

Hate to admit it but it was "All Shook Up" by Elvis.

Also "The Banana Boat Song" by Harry Belafonte.
Guess I'm old.

Oh by the way "To Sir With Love" is one of my top fave movies.
Also loved to see Lulu revived on the Brit sitcom "Absolutely Fabulous" years alter.

For me Theresa Brewer's Till I  Waltz Again With  You was spending its fifth and final week on top of Billboard's "Best Selling Singles" top 20 chart. It was replaced for the next eight weeks by Doggie In The Window by Pattie Page.

The week I was born in December 1955, Tennessee Ernie Ford was #1 with Sixteen Tons.  Orchestra was conducted by a gentleman with the name of Jack Fascinato.  The song was #1 on Billboard for seven weeks into the first week of 1956.

I can only say it was an Elvis Presley song which should give you the era but not the year!

Heck!  Even I'm seven years older than his posthumous 1977 hit (which is technically part of the Presley era ... lol)

I'll say the song was "Love Me"
