After Friday's show, AM640's John Oakley is going on yet another two week vacation, undoubtedly getting out while the getting is good.

No word yet on who is taking his place, but past subs have included Brad Smith and former MP Kevin Vuong.

He leaves just as John Moore returns from his fourteen day reprieve from the CFRB morning show. Still no hint on where he went, but perhaps he'll reveal that on Monday.

Don't know about Oakley's replacement but it can't be any worse than the 1010 replacement I heard a few days ago.
I didn't catch his name but he was talking about a medical treatment that included the word "cranial."
He repeatedly pronounced it CARNIAL.
Then, believe it or not he added "I just learned a new word today!"
He sure did.  In fact we all did.
Shortly after he mispronounced another fairly common word at which point I turned him off.
Remember when being asked on as a CFRB fill in host you'd better be a worthy talk show talent?

Ah, yes. John Tory's CFRB Morning Reputation Laundromat Extravaganza.

How could you not tune in?

I've tuned in John Tory a couple of times this week as he fills in for JM.
Had to tune out within about 5 minutes.
My god, what brand of coffee does he drink? Meth Cafe?
He neverstopstalkinghejustgoesonandandonadnauseumwithoutenduntillistenersjustcollapsefrom exhaustion,youknowwhatImean?
I don't remember him being as bad as this.

I must agree with Newsguy1's comment re Tory's non-stop verbage.
Seems he starts as soon as they return from the news break and talks incessantly until the next break without pause!!
I felt like calling in to tell him to just stop talking!
I had to tune out.
So sad  that the once almighty 1010 has fallen to this!

I would only tune in for brief moments, but I thought I could faintly whiff the stench of paid advocacy with some of his interviews.

dittodittoditto. Yes, I tuned out as well.  He raises my heart rate by increasing my anxiety. I need a calming voice after that which rules or Ben Mulroney.  Sometimes the 'off' switch  is your friend.

John Tory is to broadcasting what putrefaction is to biology.

I hope it is Brad Smith who did a nice job subbing for John last time.

I think John Tory was trying to bring classic morning show upbeat energy and instead just sounded tense. And rushed. For most of the breaks without a guest or the roundtable contributors to talk to, he talked AT the listener, his delivery was surprisingly flat and... overcaffeinated?

Of the two weeks he filled in I tuned in multiple times only to have switch the radio off after a few minutes. And I felt kinda bad about it. There were a few breaks he came close to recapturing the John Tory that had been a solid radio host, when he was chatting about his mom, and generally during the roundtables.

All it would take would be for someone to put together a couple of clips from the morning show of John Tory's two deliveries (flat and hyper vs  radio friendly and approachable) and have John Tory listen to them. I believe John wants to do the best job possible when he fills in on MITM. Airchecks can be uncomfortable for both the on-air talent and the PD but it's usually worth the time.

Do they even do airchecks anymore?

Edit: there's always the podcast available for a proactive special guest host to review and learn from and it'll be interesting to see or rather hear which John Tory fills in on MITM the next time John Moore takes time off.

I hope John Oakley has a super vacation.

For those not fond of Tory (clearly an understatement judging by some of the comments here) Moore revealed on his first day back Monday that he was only taking one more day off in the coming weeks and then he'll be back fulltime, with the exception of stat holidays.

So unless other hosts are absent, you likely won't hear the former mayor on 1010 for a while.

Still no word on where Moore went on his vacation or whether it was to the U.S. Not really our business, I suppose, but given the current political climate and some of his past comments, I'm still curious.

I agree that where Moore spent his vacation is not really our business, although I do think he went stateside to Provincetown, where he usually spends his summer vacs and I think that because he hasn’t said where he went, which he usually does. Still, not our business!

I must be in the minority....I enjoy John Tory on the radio.  In fact, I always thought he was a better broadcaster than a politician.    When he started broadcasting on CFRB talk shows,  I enjoyed that he was not confrontational, but actually engaged in dialogue with guests and callers.  It is good, though, to have John Moore back

Looks like you're getting your wish. Brad Smith is the sub for the next two weeks.

I actually did not know when I wrote that line, but I am happy to listen for two weeks. Brad is different, which, right now, is better than good or bad. He seems like a genuine person (I have not met him in person).
