In recent interviews, ABC "World News Tonight" anchor David Muir has confessed to what many viewers always suspected: he wears an immaculately tailored suit and tie on air during the show, but under the desk, he's wearing an old pair of blue jeans. He's explained that he prefers comfortably casual to formal attire, and since no one can see under that highly polished set, it doesn't really matter what he wears on the lower half.

It helps explain why Muir is always "anchored" to the desk, unlike his counterparts on other networks that sometimes roam around their sets.

I wonder how many other desk-bound anchors on both local and network news shows do the exact same thing?

Many years ago, Walter Cronkite was named one of America's best-dressed men.
When Cronkite was told this he quipped, "How would they know, They don't see what I am wearing underneath the desk."

ABC’s show poodle Muir was the dimbulb wearing a faux ABC fireman’s jacket (???) covering the Palisades fires last winter. Okay, big deal. Until he turned sideways revealing the clothespins cinching in the jacket to be more form fitting. He’s been wearing two sizes too small t-shirts this week in Texas.
The show poodle really goes out of his way to prove the William Hurt character from Broadcast News was a role model.

Rachel Maddow is usually neatly and condervatively dressed with a black blazer over a white blouse. I saw her one night when, for some reason, she had to get up and move away from her desk. She was wearing jeans, but not just ordinary jeans. They were big and baggy and rumpled, like something a farmer might wear out to the barn.

At any one given time, there could be reason to step away from the desk while still doing the news.
