I can't recall a TV show ever coming back from the brink as often as CBS' "SWAT." The drama about a police Special Weapons and Tactical unit was a hit for some seven years on the network, only to get cancelled in 2023 - before the network changed its mind and in a very unusual move, decided to bring it back for one more season in 2024. It starred Shemar Moore as the guy in charge of the squad.
It was then cancelled again and its last episode aired May 16th.
Or did it? Now producers have found a way to potentially get it back on the air again - although not necessarily on CBS. They've created a spin-off, called SWAT Exiles, and you'll never guess who's starring in it? Yep, it's Shemar Moore, playing the exact same character, now working with a new group of young recruits. But in many ways, it sounds like it will be pretty much the same thing.
So far, no network has agreed to take this new production, but with all the streaming services and the previous popularity of the old show, my guess is it will show up somewhere.
This cat has nine lives. I've never watched it, but I can't recall any TV drama that's been essentially given this many chances in an environment where cancellation lurks around every corner. Pretty remarkable.
