I've heard Mr.Lilley as a pundit on the radio from time to time but never as the guest host of an afternoon drive show and while not every winger can play center there must be a good reason why 1010 has him filling in, right?

Whatever his politics (there's that word again!) Lilley is quite comfortable being on the media, has a decent voice and seems made for his media appearances, even though most of his work is newspaper related.

I think CFRB had no choice - they're using both of their afternoon drive regulars for the evening's election coverage. And with all the Bell cuts, they really don't have a lot of replacements. So Lilley, who knows the city and its issues, and sounds good on the air seems like a logical choice to host a show.

I can't really think who else would be available. Scott Reid, who is a sometime fill-in, is also on their election broadcast. So he's out of the running, too.

Whatever happened to Mark Twohey?  I always enjoyed him as a fill-in.

Personally, I think living with a girlfriend/common-law spouse who is the Press Secretary to the Premier of Ontario puts you in an untenable conflict of interest when it comes to covering provincial politics. The Sun should at least disclose this apparent conflict when in columns be writes about Ontario politics. Does CFRB disclose his conflict of interest on air when he's on?

It's bad optics for sure, which does nothing but sow distrust.

Lilley had his start in radio working as a reporter for 940 News in Montreal in 2002, and later moving to news at CFRA in Ottawa. I believe he hosts from time to time currently on CFRA.

You don't remember Lilly being a co-host and founder of Sun News network alongside the delightful Ezra Levant.
Lilly briefly followed Levant and crew to the switch to Rebel News, but when he realized that Levant was going full throttle right-wing racist extremist he fled to save his credibility.
So did Alex Pierson and the failed politician Anthony Fury, who just had another epic fail last night in Toronto's Don Valley West.
Lilly has long been a hard right leaning bore who flirts with more extreme elements.
Why does 1010 feel the need to keep resurrecting him?
Maybe because he and Agar were buddies, also at SUN News Network.

It was the first time I had heard Brian Lilley doing radio and was impressed, decent voice and he came across comfortable in front of a mic. I hope CFRB will give him more airtime, a good fill-in talent!

I listened to about an hour of Brian Lilley on RB yesterday.  He sounds confident enough on air and on the technical side handled everything fine.  He also does have a radio background, so this came through.

His show was more or less about Tuesdays US election.  He really seems to have a thing about CBC which he brought up a few times in the time I was listening.  He said that all of the CBC hosts were coming unglued and sad when it was obvious that Trump was going to win.

Not true.  I watched a lot of CBC's coverage and this didn't happen that I saw.  They had a couple of live reports from a Republican watch party bar in Washington speaking with happy rowdy patrons, and host David Cochran seemed to be enjoying himself in the crowd.  Rosie Barton agreeded with the Republican pundit they had on as a guest on why Trump won, and she added some points of her own, which were critical of the Democrats.  Rather than upset, they like all other commentators I was watching on Tuesday were more surprised at the strength of the win.

CBC's coverage was quite good and I thought fair from my POV, and the hosts including the Democrat and Republican guests were getting along well on air.  Not the way that Lilley was trying to portray it on the radio yesterday.  I am not a Justin Trudeau fan, but Lilley also was attempting to do the same with the Liberals and Trudeau every 20 minutes or so yesterday.

He was starting to come across the same way as his exaggerated one sided columns in the Sun...
