RA my friend this is for you

Will you allow any avenue to pass comment on the U.S. Presidential election results?

I do have a suggestion

Perhaps a 24 or 48 hour time sensitive thread to be locked or deleted once members have had their say?

It is after all a momentous event we're talking about

Will members be shut down or allowed to vent?

I trust your good judgement

The problem is everyone thinks their ox is being gored.

Those on the left seem to have little tolerance for those on the right and vice versa.

I guess I'm one of the few who likes to listen to both sides and then decide. Seems there aren't that many who feel that way.

The partisan divides won't be mended here.

And yes, it's almost impossible not to deal with the U.S. election since it's so consequential and it's so close and it's so tied to media (mainly TV.). I think it will taper off somewhat by next week.

The problem for me, outside of members constantly threatening to quit if the politics on any side keeps coming up, is that I only have so many hours in a day and this would double my workload trying to police all the complaints that inevitably follow. Best just not to go there.

Yes, there are topics that lend themselves to getting political, especially government legislation like Bill C-11 that affects broadcasting and CRTC rules. That's fair game. But constantly pitting PP vs. JT has nothing to do with local radio and TV. So I'd rather keep away from it.

And it doesn't really belong here. Imagine if you went to say, a website that dealt with recipes and cooking and people kept posting threads about nuclear physics. Clearly, that's not the point of the site. There are so many thousands of places on the web where politics can be hammered out, including Politico and all the Toronto newspaper comments section. Just to name a few.

This is a headache I don't need right now when my health isn't 100%. Everyone is welcome to their opinion. I'm just asking them to post those opinions where they belong.

I'm arguing that clearly isn't here.

Chili-chocko cookies

1/2 cup (125 mL) room temperature unsalted butter
1/2 cup (125 mL) semi-sweet chocolate chips
1 cup (250 mL) packed dark brown sugar
2 large eggs
2 tsp (10 mL) vanilla extract
1/2 tsp (2 mL) kosher salt
1 tsp (5 mL) baking powder
1 tsp (5 mL) ground cayenne pepper (adjust to taste; habanero pepper can also be used)
2 tsp (10 mL) ground cinnamon
1/2 cup (125 mL) unsweetened cocoa powder
1 cup (250 mL) all-purpose flour
Maldon salt to finish

Line two large baking sheets with parchment paper or silicone baking mats. Set aside.

In a microwave-safe bowl, add butter and chocolate chips and microwave in 10- to 15-second intervals, stirring until completely melted. Let cool to room temperature.

Transfer chocolate-butter mixture to a stand mixer with paddle attachment or a large bowl with an electric mixer. Add brown sugar, eggs and vanilla. Beat on medium speed until fluffy. Add salt, baking powder, cayenne and cinnamon. Continue to mix until well-incorporated. Turn mixer down to low speed and slowly add cocoa powder and flour. Continue to mix until well-incorporated and there are no streaks.

Cover bowl with plastic wrap and refrigerate for at least 30 minutes.

Preheat oven to 350 F (180 C).

Remove chilled dough from fridge and scoop out 1 tbsp-(15 ml) sized balls. Smooth out balls with hands and place on a lined baking sheet, leaving about 2 inches (5cm) between cookies. Slightly flatten balls with palms and sprinkle a bit of Maldon salt on top. Bake for 15 minutes, rotating sheets halfway, or until cookies are well-formed but still slightly soft.

Remove from oven and let rest for 5 minutes before transferring to a wire rack to cool completely. Repeat with remaining dough.

Makes about 24 cookies.

Nuclear physics is so bad. Very very bad! F--k nuclear physics! Nuclear physics is so far to the right, or to the left, or whatever. For all I know, nuclear physics is a centrist phenomenon. Anyhow, the only cure for nuclear physics is a vaccine. To keep this radio related, the good doctor recommends 107.9 MHz of powerful radioisotopes, a good receiver and antenna far from local and co-channel interference, and call the doctor the morning after. Seriously, RA, just keep your brain and your health on an even keel. You do an awesome job here.

Thanks Saul. I appreciate the kind words.

Maybe we could combine them into one category - nuclear and Humpty Dumpty potato snacks.

We could call it Fission Chips.

Thanks for your concern. I'm getting better after a battle with COVID. But hey, there's at least a bright side - no booster shot until next March!

I'll be getting the flu vaccine later next week if all goes well. I'm well enough to be able to go out now without infecting anyone. By the way, did you know the only drug that treats COVID, Paxlovid, costs $1,336 for a 5 day dose? Thank God for OHIP!

And now, back to radio topics...

Nuclear Physics? No idea what that is. I failed Grade 9 Science twice!! and had to take it at summer school. Since then I never attended another high school science class. To me the periodic table is something I would probably be something to eat my lunch on.

So, would the "chippy" be called High Street Fission Chips?
