According to the official Santa Claus Parade website, the annual Toronto Christmas procession will be streamed live for the first time ever on YouTube. What took so long? The 2024 edition takes place on Nov. 24th.

CHFI is one of the official sponsors of the event, so it won't be long before All Xmas/All The Time takes over their airwaves and drives many of us away! In 2022, they went non-stop Jingle All The Way on Nov. 7th, while a year later, the tinsel tunes came out on Nov. 17th.

The 2024 edition of the Yule gruel won't be far behind.

Is CTV /CP24 covering the parade this year.  I know CTV tapes and edits it down to an hour or 90 min and shows it at a later date.  Didn't see either station down as a sponsor. The You Tube should be popular.

Childhood memories of watching Global's tape-delayed coverage of the parade every year, 4:30 to 6pm. From YouTube user CatchTheTaste, here's the first little bit of the 1989 show, hosted by Faye Dance of Wintario fame, Global News anchor/reporter John Dawe, and at street level, the late Sandy Hoyt of CHFI.

And once again, I will not be anywhere near it.
Bah Humbug.
But I will make sure I have everything I need at home that day, and probably not go out.
In my part of Toronto the annual traffic clog fest starts about 8 am and lasts into the night.

It turns out, YouTube will be only place you can see the Parade this year. It will not be televised by any of the Toronto TV stations. Not sure if it's a financial or scheduling issue, but it's the first time in decades I can remember a Santa parade not being on free TV somewhere.

As it is, the perennial is in peril. This year's event will go on, but organizers say they were hurt by the pandemic and that a loss of major corporate backers has left them in dire straits. They've dipped into the reserves to bring this year's procession to the streets, but insist that unless they get more funding, this could be the final Santa parade after an amazing 120 years.

They've even set up a Go Fund Me Page to try and raise the money needed to keep the annual tradition alive. Which I suppose means that this year, Santa is asking you for a present!

Back when I was a young one we would drive into Toronto from Oakville and park at my grandparents home.[Ossington and Davenport] Back then the parade headed east from Dovercourt along Dupont.

Hopefully this won't be the last Santa Claus parade ever.
Come on Simons I'm calling out to you! Help them out for next year! It'll be great for your new Yorkdale and Eaton Centre locations!

Hopefully the parade will be around at least for next year.  The Go Fund Me has already raised almost $50,000 with a goal of $250,000.  I am not so sure the Go Fund Me page and the possibility of this being the last year is really well known yet. Four or five corporate donations could put this over the top easy.

Even though I've never gone to the parade it's a timeless tradition mostly for the kids and their patient parents.

I think the Toronto Maple Leafs should sponsor the Santa Claus parade for the foreseeable future. MLSE can afford it and it would be a great thank you to the city and the people who have been steadfast Leafs fans over the years.

During the parade they could give out a number of tickets to Leafs games against the the less popular visiting teams and a bunch of mini Leafs jerseys and lots of child size Leafs toques and baseball caps which would be an excellent way of repopulating and reinvigorating their fan base.

The public goodwill MLSE would create would be priceless.

That's an excellent idea!
