The authors of this piece in the Wall Street Journal question why the U.S. government is working so hard towards legislation that will preserve a band whose best days are behind it.

It's typical of human activity...hang on to things that worked in another era cause they are comfortable and nostalgic to you...AM radio has become a beacon for older generations and (especially in parts of the USA) a vessel to spew evangelical/religious and right-wing bullshit propaganda that caters to those over 65+...they remember AM radio as a key part of how they received and consumed entertainment and information...those days are gone and the ratings numbers don't lie...fewer are listening and even fewer of those people are under 55 years old...it's slowly but surely dying and nothing will stop the grim reaper from eventually showing up.
