Podcasts are going long, like 4 hours long

An interesting report in Bloomberg about the changing lengths of podcasts. Over the past few years, the thought was to go short, 30 minutes, this being due to time issues, shorter attention spans and a plethora of choices in the podcast-o-sphere.

But new developments is that the longer podcasts are working too. Diary of a CEO went 4 hours. Is this the trend? Apparently.

What is your take, how much time do you give a podcast you like?

Here is the link to the article.

Here is the 4 hour interview with Dr. Andrew Huberman

Doesn’t really matter how long a podcast is to me - I listen to them after I go to bed and I’m usually asleep in five to ten minutes 😄

In general I don't listen to many podcasts with Toronto Mike being an exception. His interviews are quite often with media personalities with which I am familiar. I would have no problem listening to a three hour interview with Roger Ashby. I am sure he has many amusing and interesting tales to tell about life in Kitchener, at CKOC and the CHUM Organization. If the subject is one I have a casual interest in, probably one hour is enough for me.

I have never listened to a podcast and probably never will.

I listen to a few podcasts a week and most are 30 - 45 minutes with a few others extending to 2 hrs., but only occasionally.   A recent interview by Bob Leftsetz with former Toronto based promoter Johnny Brower was just short of 3 hours but since he's an excellent story teller the length was fine.     If the content is worthy of the time I don't care how long it is.   But when it starts dragging on or going off topic it should be edited down.   Some just put what they record straight to the podcast app without trimming the fat.   It can be a real pain in the ear.

Not sure this is such a 'new' trend - the Hardcore History podcast has been releasing episodes over two hours long for years. Many of the ones I listen to are regularly over an hour.

Firstly, thank you for listening. I think Toronto Mike'd episodes average about 75-90 minutes, depending on how it's going and how much time we have.

Carol Off visited Monday and she only had 60 minutes.

When Robert Fisher visited recently, we had more time and it almost went two hours. But damn, was it ever good.

Episode 1000 went 5:40:31, but I'll never do that again, because it almost killed me. Shout out to Ridley Funeral Home.
