The Southern Ontario/WNY Radio-TV Forum / YES TV Secures New 4-Yr. Rights Agreements For "Wheel" & "Jeopardy"

I'm not sure why, but this surprises me. YES TV is a relatively small player in Canadian television, a faith based outlet located in Burlington. Yet somehow it's managed to secure yet another four year exclusive deal for "Wheel of Fortune" (which is getting a ton of publicity for incoming host Ryan Seacrest) and "Jeopardy!", both game shows that do very well in North American syndication.

I might have thought some of the bigger outlets, like a Global, a CTV, a City or even CHCH, would have tried to obtain them when they were up for grabs. Which leads to the question: did they even bother trying or has the glow disappeared from these longtime TV staples?

I would think new episodes of Jeopardy would likely do better than the 400th rerun of The Big Bang Theory on CTV, or some other rerun on one of the other guys, but who knows?

Either way, the syndicator continues to say "Yes" to Yes TV, and the shows will remain there right through the 2028-29 season.

They must have some money as they repurchased the building they broadcast from earlier this year. Crossroads had sold it in 2018. Was listed in 2021 (under Spergel Inc. receivership) for 34.9M. The sale process had complexities - an initial buyer backed out - and needed 32 months.

YES TV has been trying to step as far away from religion as possible the second they changed their name to Yes tv.
More so now.
I mean, if they're trying to maintain "family" television, shows like Bull really push the line.

I am surprised Bull is still on? They are showing the episodes for the 3rd time this fall season. They need new content and maybe apply for grants to produce their own shows.

If they produced their own shows, they'd air on a Sunday and have some sort of religious connection, no doubt.

Meanwhile, Deja Vu has retired Frasier and introduced season one episodes starting with the pilot of Taxi and Dear John.

Over its history Wheel has been on CTV, then Global. Jeopardy!, not so much. I was at CHCH when they had the rights (2010-12) to both, until CBC scooped them away.

Demos are an issue. The sales manager used to joke about 'Wheelchair of Fortune.' Also, rights and other fees meant there was only a narrow margin to be made. It didn't pay for CHCH to run it; apparently, it works for YES (which has a wider OTA footprint to amortize the cost.)
