Blue Jays Radio Crew Say Goodbye To Listeners After Dismal Season

There was a lot of misty nostalgia on the Fan 590 Sunday, as the final Blue Jays game of the year aired for the last time in 2024. Ben Shulman and Chris Leroux took the unusual step of reading listener texts as the ball game proceeded, thanking them for their time in tuning in the broadcast.

The pair also thanked each other, complimenting the professionalism they displayed during what must have been a very tough year. It's unclear whether they'll make any more appearances this year in regards to baseball play-by-play for the playoffs, but it's doubtful. My guess is Rogers will simply take the U.S. feed so it doesn't cost them anything. That is, if there's no Leafs game that would take priority.

I wonder how much damage this terrible season did for their ratings. Tough to listen to a three hour game when the team has nothing to play for and loses so often. Which they did again for the last time on Sunday. Final score for game 162: Marlins 3, Blue Jays 1. And in typical fashion, it ended on a strike-out!

It's going to be a long winter!

We finished 74-88 and lost all but 1 game over the past 10+ games. Personally, I like the offseason for the deals and moves, you are right RA, it is a long time until pitchers and catchers report.

Also of note, is this the last year for Buck as a broadcaster?  I do like Caleb Joseph and Madison too.

Let's hope we make some smart moves, I like the kids and with some veteran presence, good things can happen

On the down side, no more Loonie Hot Dog Nights and or 50/50 draws until next April!

The world would be so good if it weren't for some people...

They're not really measurable.

The Fan590 never airs the playoffs if the Jays aren't in it. "misty nostalgia"..hardly. Thought you were listening to Roy Green??

A rotten end to a rotten season and I can’t help but feel they traded off too much of their talent, like Kikuchi, however I don’t mind Madison Shipman, she seems to know her stuff.

According to yesterday's TV broadcast, Dan and Buck both indicated that they would be back next season.

I'm pleased about that. I think they do a fine job.

I didn't listen to the radio coverage this year at all, but I agree that both Dan and Buck are really good on air and work well together.  In fact kudos to the whole Rogers baseball crew who do an excellent job covering the games. TV camerawork and sound quality at the Rogers Centre games, first rate.
