One of Canada's oldest documentary news series was unceremoniously laid to rest in February due to budget cuts.

But the show has risen from the cancellation grave and is being given another chance by CTV, with its very first "new" effort being shown on the network beginning Saturday, Oct. 5th

Avery Haines returns as the senior correspondent.

CTV launches new W5 investigative unit

Outstanding.  I'm so glad the show is back and the only real choice to host it.  Very good news.

Madness takes its toll.  Please have exact change.

When CTV announced in February that the W5 program was being cancelled, they did say at the time that W5 would be converted into an investigative news unit. So Oct. 5 is the airing of the first hour-long documentary from the W5 investigative news unit but it's not a revival of the W5 weekly series. The unit is also doing a five-part series for CTV National News that will begin airing on Monday. Both the documentary and the series are on the related topic of the Darien Gap narcotics and migration trail between Central and South America.

I heard Avery Haines on the radio yesterday and was glad she is coming back wit W5.  She does great documentaries.  I am very much looking forward to the second part of the 'Darien Gap' documentary she did.  Very good!

Now do the logical thing and bring back Lisa Laflamme with a huge raise and a big apology.

This is great news for investigative journalism.

That's a good idea. Alternatively, if you're another broadcasting company, give Lisa her own show.

Looking forward to seeing W5 back on the idiot box and how terrific to read something positive about the journalism business for a change.

Glad CTV is bringing back to the airwaves. Now bring back the weekend newscasts for selected markets.
