In all the coverage of which former broadcasters ran in the federal election this week, this is one that flew under the radar.

You may remember the name Anthony Germain. He's a former CBC reporter and foreign correspondent who ran for the Liberals in a Newfoundland and Labrador riding.

Turns out he won - but only by 12 slim votes. It was the closest result of any race in all of Canada.

The Canadian Press appeared to have called this riding for Conservative Jonathan Rowe based on the trend as the polls rolled in, only to renege later on as Germain pulled ahead. Judicial recounts rarely change outcomes but with a 12-vote margin anything is possible.
