I didn't expect any real new programming on local radio due to Thanksgiving and there hasn't been any. But what I heard on CKTB Monday morning was, you should pardon the expression, a real turkey.
At one point, they replayed their version of The Round Table. Towards the end of the segment, a traffic report came on. That was followed by the news. The problem? The Round Table kept going while all this was going on, with two shows being aired at the same time. So you couldn't understand either one of them. Mercifully, the segment finally ended and the headlines kept going. But how did the local newsreader not hear it, unless she was on "tape," too?
That might have been a glitch in the automation and it's happened before. But later on in the hour, they did another "traffic and weather together" segment. The report on the roads went by fine, and then they gave the weather. The trouble this time? It was the weather forecast for Labour Day!
Listeners were told that today's high would be close to 30C, with a slight chance of showers and a low in the 20s. There were also references for the first day back to school. Now as much as I wish that were the case since I live for summer, that obviously isn't even close to reality. How did a month-old weather forecast get into the run? Has anyone vetted this before it goes to air?
Look, you can reroll as many shows as you want. But I draw the line on the Best of Weather!
