Is This The Worst Fall Season In The History Of The U.S. Networks?

I would say the answer may be 'yes,' as the traditional over-the-air TV networks ready their once vaunted Fall Season debuts. I remember when September meant a slew of new shows, programs that may or may not go on to be big hits in the years to come.

Alas, that future is no longer very bright. How many new shows will be on the Amnets this fall?

Six.

That's it. Six.

And one of those, "Private Eyes, West Coast," is a Canadian import on the CW, its only new fall program.

To be fair, some of the networks are holding back a few of their debuts until after the Christmas holidays. But there still won't be a lot of newcomers. It's a sign, if you needed proof, that streaming services are taking over, as the days of free TV start to dwindle even more.

Here's a look at the September/October TV schedule from the U.S. TV Guide, much of which will be simulcast by our stations here. Notice how many times the word "New" is used. You won't be counting long.
