Would-Be Jays Superstar Winds Up In Broadcast Booth For Next Season

Joey Votto was a superstar player with the Cincinnati Reds for 17 years. In 2024, the Toronto-born All Star was signed to a minor league contract by the Blue Jays to come back and play in his hometown. But injuries made sure that never happened and he finally retired after a stellar career.

This coming season, he'll be back in play, but not on the field. NBC has signed him to be an analyst on its weekly baseball telecast, something Votto has done on a local statewide basis when was on the DL in 2022.

He says it will be a challenge.

"I feel like there’s a lot to learn. It’s a lot harder than what’s given credit. The amount of research one has to do to be able to speak on so many different players and so many different organizations -- because there is always a new matchup -- I find it really challenging."

No word yet on whether the Jays will be playing any of the games he'll be involved with, but it will be fun to hear what he has to say about his old hometown if it happens.
