I think they can call it "new" CFOS for a while, yet. Maybe until the 560 signal goes off, at least.
However I wonder: How long has 96.3 been calling itself "New" Classical FM
I enjoy the station but it is certainly not "new".

Hot 89.9 in Ottawa has been "new" for 22 years.

How many years was the "New VR" new?

CFOS was always pretty good at promoting themselves. I imagine they will stick with the "new" for a while. I wasn't surprised that they dropped Remember When and The Doo Wop Stop. Remember When had been on air for over 40 years, and started as a Sunday evening program by Open Line Host Dave Carr around 1983. Eventually it was expanded to late evenings Monday to Friday.
CFOS has been at times fairly heavy for quite a while now. But dardcyh is right they have dropped a lot of the 60's and to a lesser extent 70's music. Still play a bit but not as much. They might sneak in the very odd 50's song but can't say I have noticed any. Here is what they have been playing today..

Before dumping the old format CFOS had a very wide playlist from the 50's to the early 80's. They were even able to make cancon mostly palatable with a large list of songs you did not mind hearing. The show Remember When showcased local artists as well as the old standards. Clearly aimed at an older audience even though I was in my 30's when I stated listening to it as an alternative from bland corporate radio. Remember When was well populated with local commercials with several regular sponsors that stayed with the show for years.
CFOS was unique. It offered something that most markets did not have, it focused on being local and provided compelling music / news / talk. It gave you a reason to listen. In my opinion they have removed the music as one of the reasons for listening. 80's, 90's and later music listeners probably don't even own a radio - they pay for and stream everything.

The audience for 80s and 90s music is people in their 40s and 50s, who still have healthy radio listening numbers.

That may be.
From my observation almost everyone I see is tied to a cell phone. In their vehicles they use the phone to connect to the 'infotainment' system in the car.

Talking to a retired CFOS alumni earlier in the week who lives in Owen Sound. This individual still does some work for Bayshore, and mentioned that the flip to FM has been very well received so far. He said that a few have written in or called commenting on the lesser amount of 50's & 60's music. But other than that, people seem to like the tweaking of the format and definitely like the FM quality. I was surprised that I was getting CFOS FM reasonably clear in the car between the town of Durham and Mount Forest about 55-60km south of Owen Sound.

The calls will stop coming in once the AM's turned off.

When I checked around 6:40 a.m. this morning in North York, "Willie 106.7" (WFRB Frostburg MD) was inbooming on 560 with C&W, which is not unusual.
