If I were Evanov I'd offer CIUT a lot of cash to swap frequencies. The station was in serious debt a few years ago after their (now former) station manager allegedly embezzled over $150,000 and they'll likely lose much of their budget due to Ford's "student choice initiative" so I think they'd find a large infusion of cash for a frequency swap very tempting.

Fuck Bell
And fuck Rogers while you're at it

And how much will Verizon charge after they build their own transmission network?

You seriously think a conservative like Scheer will be prone to strictly regulate pricing rather than allow the "free market" (ie or rather monopolies like Rogers and Bell) to decide?

When conservatives get mugged by reality. A number of the Tories, Reform Party supporters, libertarians, and right-wing conservative ideologues I knew at university have grown into centrists, liberals, or even leftists after a decade or so living in the real world.

How many people access the CBC News website compared to other Canadian news sources? It appears to be the most popular if Facebook fans and Twitter follows are any indication, much more so than CTV News or Global News. Also, isn't the National's current strategy to build its online audience? TV ratings alone would not capture the acutal size of either the show's audience. https://blog.feedspot.com/canadian_news_websites/

I have to admit I get a little tired of all the remakes and restarts of old TV shows you see on broadcast television these days. It's like they can't think of anything new so they just regurgitate what worked before. (By the way, CBS just cancelled the Murphy Brown remake, so it's gone.) The other new flavour of the month is doing a live show, upping the challenge.

Which brings us to something ABC is trying and it's either a travesty or so compelling you just have to watch.

Or both.

On May 22, the network will be airing a live special recreating one All In The Family and one of The Jeffersons classic scripts, with the help of original producer/creator Norman Lear.  It sounds alarming but the talent on board for this thing is very impressive: Woody Harrelson as Archie Bunker, Marisa Tomei as Edith, Jamie Foxx as George Jefferson, Wanda Sykes as Louise and more.

As much as it pains me, I have to confess I will probably watch it, just out of curiosity. But really, these characters and the original actors who played them are so iconic, I have to wonder "what's the point?"

And if it works, you just know there will be a lot more to come. Is anyone else going to be suckered into watching this or am I alone on this thing?

Star-Studded 'All in the Family,' 'The Jeffersons' Live Event Set at ABC

The BBC did it in 2016 with a number of their old sitcoms as part of its celebration of 60 years of BBC TV. (eg restaging an episode of Are You Being Served? with an new cast). It wasn't terribly successful.

Macleans was pretty conservative for years under Ken Whyte (who had previously been the National Post's founding editor). It's a bit much to hear people complaining about the "liberal" media when Postmedia (which includes the Sun papers now) owns the most newspapers of any publisher and is the only game in town in many towns and cities and when "talk radio" is almost universally conservative-leaning. Compare newspaper endorsements with the actual vote result and then try to argue that the media (or at least the press) is to the left of the general population.

African Americans forgave the Democrats for slavery, Jim Crow and the KKK, somehow, someway. We have all been duped at one point in life.

That comment shows a pretty superficial understanding of American political history, particularly that there was a political realignment in the US between the 1930s and the 1970s and that in particular, in the 1960s the Dixiecrats pretty much defected to the Republicans en masse because of the Civil Rights Act. Until the 1930s the Republicans were largely to the left of the Democrats not only on civil rights but on economic issues (Teddy Roosevelt's trust busting, the Progressive movement whose members such as LaFollette joined the Republicans etc). The Republicans and Democrats began to switch places, ideologically, with the New Deal and that switch was consolidated in the 1960s with the Civil Rights Act. But I guess if one gets one's understanding of history from propagandists like convicted criminal Dinesh D'Sousa, Fox News, and Rush Limbaugh etc rather than actual books by actual historians you wouldn't know that.

Anyone remember Uncle Bill Lawrence who hosted a morning kiddy show at CHCH before moving to CBLT to do the weather? Kept doing Tiny Talent Time for years though.

And then there was Rocket Robin Hood on CITY. Harrigan, produced by CKWS in Kingston (I think CHCH carried it here) was a staple for years as well though not to my taste. And of course, Uncle Bobby - growing up in Scarborough you'd always here stories about him driving a school bus but I never saw it myself.

The guitarist on Uncle Bobby, Alex Laurier, was also a staple at TVO for years as the original co-host of Polka Dot Door and "Moose" on Cucumber. Somehow, despite being convicted in the 1970s of sexually abusing a child, he continued on at TVO into the 1980s until a second conviction ended his career.
