Many start a podcast from the idea that people actually care what they have to say….the vast majority don’t…it’s usually to feed an ego, market a company or product or talk about fringe stuff that rarely sees the mainstream…past broadcasters with a following that is drying up, tin-foil hats, conspiracy theorists, comedians, ex-politicians, obscure music genres, specialty groups or topics, etc, etc…way too many to succeed.

'...It’s no wonder that the phrase “everyone has a podcast” has become a Twitter punch line. Like the blogs of yore, podcasts — with their combination of sleek high tech and cozy, retro low — are today’s de rigueur medium, seemingly adopted by every entrepreneur, freelancer, self-proclaimed marketing guru and even corporation. (Who doesn’t want branded content by Home Depot and Goldman Sachs piped into their ears on the morning commute?) There are now upward of 700,000 podcasts, according to the podcast production and hosting service Blubrry, with between 2,000 and 3,000 new shows launching each month...'

This is awesome (and super geeky) info...thanks!...I have a place on the north shore of Lake Erie about 30 minutes from Niagara Falls...it's one of the best places in Canada to get free tv...all the major Canadian and US networks plus the cool niche channels, Laff, Heroes and Icons, MeTv, etc...but I've often wondered why one day I can only access 20 channels and the next day I can get over 40...always thought reception had something to do with the trees and weather.

Don't get too excited about ATSC-3.  There are no TV's out there with it installed in the USA, so broadcasters aren't about to desert 10-15% of their audience base.  However WNLO-49 may go ATSC-3 when it moves to its new Ch. 16 Assignment and relocates to Grand Island soon.   Markow202 - is your antenna aimed at any trees?  Tree leaves are a problem, particularly when wet in summer, if there is a tree in the direction of your antenna.   The hot humid weather has also caused inversions over the cold lake waters which impact the distant Buffalo transmitters, particularly WKBW and WGRZ.   It is not uncommon to see WGRZ at one moment and then lose WNED - which is under powered and impacted by weather fades.   Things could stabilize just a bit, on August 2nd, when Toronto and a number of Buffalo stations relocate to their (final) "repack" channels.   Expect a decrease in strength for WNLO/WIVB as it relocates much further south to the old Colden TX site and relocates to Ch.36.   But WUTV's signal should improve when it moves to Ch. 32.  Are you using a pre-amp with your antenna? Some pre-amps - particularly Channel Master are impacted when Western NY signals fade, and the Toronto signals (much stronger) overload the amp.

Curious.  Do you ever see WDTB-HD channel 39 (off-air channel 29)?   It is only 15 KW, and is an indicator often of better reception conditions over the path to Buffalo.

In any event, by early March of next year, which is "phase 8" of the repack, you should see a

For all us antenna geeks and users out there...me included...

'Next Gen TV has the capability to broadcast high-quality Ultra HD 4K video, HDR and wide color gamut, high frame rates up to 120Hz, and more. Like current over-the-air TV broadcasts -- and unlike cable, satellite or live TV streaming -- it will be free. You'll just need an antenna and a TV or separate tuner that can decode it. ATSC 3.0 proponents also claim better reception indoors and on the go, perhaps on your phone or even to your car.One potential downside for consumers? ATSC 3.0 will also let broadcasters track your viewing habits, information that can be used for targeted advertising, just like websites and companies like Facebook and Google use today.'

By the way, RB really killed 640 on this, when shots were fired near the scene of the parade.

NT1010 was the only one who had this angle on the story as it was happening, even while their reporters were ordered to get down on the ground. Meanwhile, 640 carried on with the feed of the speeches, apparently either unable or not knowing what was going on until several minutes later.

The rest of the so-called media chose to blow over the shooting and play it down because it ruined their chosen fantasy narrative that this victory represents the victory of unifying the community across the lines which divide us and that we are all the same and one big happy family, blah blah blah.

The media are no longer as interested in reporting stories as they are interested in playing social engineer.

I congratulate Ryan Doyle and Jim Richards for the fantastic job they did yesterday covering an important actual event (shots fired among a massive crowd - this is a story folks) for CFRB. And shame on the media who ignored it because it did not sit well with their fantasy world.

And shame on the police for not identifying the perpetrators and announcing the charges as they would have done and have done in any and every other violent episode of this gravity. Because we all know what that means. If they had been white dudes in MAGA hats their names, faces, and entire life stories would have been everywhere instantly.

And shame on the media for not calling the police out on their attempt to whitewash reality.

'The net reduction in staffing will see traditional jobs replaced by video journalists. In traditional newsgathering, a reporting team would normally include the reporter and camera operator. The piece would then be edited in the studio by a designated editor. Video journalists would become all-in-one workers who would drive to the scene, shoot the report, present it, edit it and also write digital copy. Law estimated 300 station staff will be affected, but it’s too early to put a number on the job losses.'https://j-source.ca/article/the-future-of-videojournalism-at-ctv/

=inheritToronto, ON, May 10, 2019 — In an era of fake news, Canadians say they’re becoming increasingly able to differentiate between what is real and what is fake, and trust in traditional news media sources is beginning to rebound.Seven in ten (72%) Canadians say that they trust (14% a great deal/58% a fair amount) and have confidence in traditional news media – such as newspapers, news magazines, TV, and radio news – when it comes to reporting the news fully, accurately, and fairly, which is up 7 points since 2018, and even up 3 points since the question was first asked in 2008. However, Millennials – loosely defined as those aged 18-34 – are much less trusting (60%) than Gen X’ers aged 35-54 (74%) or Boomers aged 55+ (79%).Looking at sources of news individually, broadcast TV news (61%, +2 points since last year), print newspapers (58%, -1), news radio (54%, +3), news websites (52%, +1) and cable news (51%, unchanged) are the sources which Canadians say they trust all or most of the time.

However, talk radio (42%, +2), online-only news publications (28%, -6), social media in general (14%, -3), and more specifically Facebook (11%, -3) and Twitter (10%, -2) are all less trusted, with most of the online and social-media channels declining in trust.

CTV is asking it's workers to embrace the digital world...which means more tech and less people...part of this is asking current reporters to become multi-purpose video journalists...City TV uses videojournos a lot more than local CTV news affiliates do but that will change...newer tech and equipment makes this a feasible cost-cutting move, but there will obviously be less people working cameras, writing and uploading content if the reporters are going to be asked to do those jobs too...here's a response from the union - https://unifor.org/en/whats-new/press-room/bell-media-must-respect-rights-workers-digital-restructuring-plans
