Congrats to both.  These were 'pay" services when they first launched.  You needed a descrambler for the first few years, until they were allowed to be specialty channels.
I had pay TV from the beginning and my basement was full when the Jays clinched their first play-off spot.  And I remember the CRTC allowing Much to be unscrambled for all to watch 'Live Aid."
Early VJs?  I remember JD Roberts, Chris Ward, Michael Williams, Erica Ehm and Jeannie Beker.  (sp?)
Remember the Pepsi Power Hour??

I have truly enjoyed reading all of the stories on people's first radios.  Here is my tale.
I don't remember a main radio in our home...late 1950s.  But one day my dad brought home a transistor (green) with a plastic case, from the canteen where he worked.
I was eight and borrowed it to listen to the Habs games in french.
My first radio was a handheld model that I wore out.
When I was about 12, I got a Sound Design multi-band radio that I used all the time.  Whether it was a ball game or keeping up with the latest tunes, this was great!!!
When cable came to our part of Ottawa in 1968, I used to take the cable off the TV and put it on the whip antenna to get CHOM from Montreal.
I spent evenings listening to WABC, WLS, WCFL, WPTR and WKBW.  I tried to get CHUM, but WHN in New York was also at 1050.
While I was trying to do homework, I must admit I was a failure in psychology, but an A - plus student in Rockology.
I have always loved radio.  While I spent most of my career in television, radio was, and is my first love.  When this post came out, I began to count the number of radios in my home and stopped at 15.  My grandmother from Cape Breton game me an Addison 1937 model that still works!!!
Long live Rock!!!  and long, live Radio!!!

1310 has been a loser since the mid-'60s.  At one point, (the early 1980s) they stole people from CFRA and still didn't do anything.  When they run baseball games on Sunday night, they have problems and then excuses why things sent wrong.  They do very little promotion, and the 1310 signal is terrible.  Perhaps they should switch to the vacant 540!!!
BTW, this move redoes something they changed shortly after they went to an all-news wheel.

To me, the Jays are doing what the Sens are trying to do...rebuild.  There are prices to pay for this.  Low ratings and lower attendance are just two of the items that will concern the bean counters.
There is nothing more exciting than following a team in a pennant or play-off race.  Think of how the Jays announcers are going to try and live through this.  There are only 150 or so games left!!!

I try to listen to the Jays games on 1310News in Ottawa. So, I phoned Friday to see if they would carry Saturday's game.  They didn't know!!!  I was told they didn't have a memo regarding this and the GM was not available.  This follows a dismal season of broadcasts last season where on a half dozen games there were
"technical issues."
1310News also carried the ESPN Sunday night games, however, they are never promoted on-air or on their website.  And on a few occasions last year, there were "technical issues."  When I phoned on the following day (Monday) nobody could answer the question.  I even spoke with someone who argued with me that 1310News does not carry those games and that TSN1200 does.
I am lucky to have the option to bring in TSN690 from Montreal that also carries the Sunday night ESPN games.
I always thought Rogers was in the communication business.  That word apparently hasn't made it from Toronto to Ottawa.

The forecast said the storm will start in Ottawa at noon....or three.  As my late father used to say....
The weatherman is never wrong....but on occasion his timing is off!!!

Now, if the CFL could solve the problems in Toronto, Montreal and Vancouver, they would be better off.
