The CTV noon hour announcement about her political run ended with a somewhat ominous-sounding "We thank Natalie for her many contributions over her 19 years at CTV News as she pursues this new opportunity."
That sounded more like a farewell, not a "you'll see her again in the future" announcement. Given her long-time public exposure on TV and many charitable contributions (Easter Seals), she has a favorable enough reputation that she can probably win the seat. Financially speaking, it has got to be more lucrative than being a news reporter these days.

I don't want make RA's life any harder, but let me point out that one of Tina's last stories surrounded the impending move by Doug Ford to block the court decision to let the news media gain access to his phone records through the Freedom of Information Act.
The news has already noted that he is not allowed to conduct government business on his personal phone for precisely the reason that it allows for a politician to be engaged in sordid and potentially criminal activities. Using a sanctioned government phone is required and provides transparency on what the premier and his office are up to. He seems adamant on ignoring this and blocking access to what conversations have already transpired in the past by including a provision in his new budget that is RETROACTIVE to stop FOI in its tracks.
Now, today, he's called for a late-night sitting to ram through his budget, and make it law before this week ends. That would put an end to the court's ruling completely. And you know, I've never seen this government rush something out the door this fast, including bypassing public hearings which are the norm, and scheduling it this late at night just to avoid the usual media scrutiny. Here's Lisa Gretzky from her Instagram page:
Doug Ford has just scheduled late night sittings to ram through a law that would permanently hide government records from the public. They’re doing this in the middle of the night hoping no one notices. Doug Ford uses his cell phone for government business. The Court ordered him to release his phone records. So now, he’s changing the law so he never has to.
…
Here’s what he’s proposing: to permanently exempt himself, his cabinet, and their offices from Freedom of Information laws.

For anyone who paid close attention during the chaotic period when Rob Ford was mayor of Toronto, then you know that what led to Rob's downfall was the news media. Doug Ford has clearly learned that the media, when it is doing its actual job of digging up evidence of politicians engaged in corruption or unsavory activity, can destroy a politician. Bev, below in her tweet sums it up nicely:
Rogers owns CityTV. Ted Rogers is also a well known supporter of Doug Ford (wait... a rich billionaire supporting a right-wing politician? Shocking I know). I'm sure Rogers also wouldn't want a Liberal or NDP government in power since they'd likely raise corporate taxes. I already mentioned earlier about the power of blackmailing a TV network by threatening to yank tens of millions of dollars of taxpayer-funded self-congratulatory TV ads. We'll see what Tina has to say herself as she's promised to talk more about her dismissal but I definitely don't think she was fired for stealing staplers out of the station's supply room.
More damning is the fact that at least two of her stories vanished off CityNews's site after her firing, both related to Ford and Calandra. In particular the one where viewers are informed that Ford is paying insane amounts of over $250,000 to insiders to take over director positions. Marit Stiles today posted about other cushy jobs handed out by Ford that pay even more than that $300,000 to $400,000. And for the record, Ford started hiring friends with huge salaries just prior to the last provincial election, probably to lock in their reward in case the PCs didn't get re-elected. How badly do you think he doesn't want the news media to report on this?
Or that Tina reported on the

Right-wing governments can't stand to be criticized or exposed for their own corruption, which Tina was doing a very good job at. Viewers saw what happened at City when Richard Southern kept going at Doug Ford (he got moved off the TV airwaves).
Ford is spending millions in taxpayer dollars running non-stop TV ads on all the major channels, trying to deflect from every scandal he's mired in (FOI retroactive bill to hide Ford's phone records, Dave Piccinni handing out millions to PC friends, another billion dollar slush fund with no transparency on how recipients are chosen, a dictatorial takeover of the educational boards, Ford government paying over $250,000 to Conservative-hired directors for 6 months worth of "work", etc).
Guess who wants a cut of that TV ad revenue? CityTV. Ford spent $100 million of taxpayer money on these useless partisan government ads in 2025, according to the auditor general report. Would TV stations want a portion of that ad money in 2026? Sure. The price to pay to get in on that ad revenue? Shut up your reporters about Ford, Piccinni, and Calandra. That's my take on it. Nobody knows how to shut down about critics of right-wing politics than the right-wing supporters. ![]()

It's always a "highly questionable" source when it's something you disagree with, I'll just say that. But that is what the right-wingers always say isn't it? "Fake news." "Didn't happen. Next question." "You're a liar, you're a bad journalist." "You're a radical lefty." Dismissiveness is part and parcel of that ideology these days (it didn't used to be, again I remember Brian Mulroney not shying away from hard questions asked of him by journalists.)
There's a reason why both the federal and provincial PCs (post Mulroney and starting with Harper) have either silenced the news media, or limited their questions, or literally run away from the reporters (see: Tina Yazdani recently having to chase the Ford team to get them to answer questions). It's why Trump calls a female reporter "Piggy" or Doug Ford tells (mostly the female politicians) to "stay in their lane". They can't stand to be shown that they are in the wrong; they can't stand to be called out on their blatant attempts to a) invade a country solely for its oil, b) privatize the entire province's healthcare system so their donors can profit off it, c) pass along taxpayer money to their friends and donors though slush funds, and so on.

They get rich off being in charge and they don't want to be questioned about their own hypocrisy about gravy trains that they railed against when they were the little guy (Doug Ford, Toronto city council), or backroom deals being made (Doug Ford and the Greenbelt scandal), or going on and on about incompetence. I guarantee you that Carney doesn't want a pipeline built and he is only placating that imbecilic woman who leads Alberta. It will not bring the kind of prosperity that you have been told to fantasize about. And in case it isn't clear from this thread, the seizure of Venezuela's oil, is going to drastically affect the price of oil going forward assuming what Trump says he is going to do, is true.
Both Alberta and Venezuela produce heavy oil. Currently Canada supplies 60% of US crude oil imports. But if Trump gets what he wants, all of those US refineries will be flooded with cheaper Venezuelan oil, not Canadian. Oversupply and higher production costs means a bad time for Alberta's economy. Once the US locks in Venezuela as a supplier, it will be very difficult to invest in new pipelines because it's now even more financially unviable, and no company is going to step up to make that investment. We no longer have the US as our biggest customer, so why pay billions to build a pipeline?
Now you say that pipeline is so you can sell the oil to China? How long do you think China is going to need oil for? Unlike the west, they've made a major push towards green energy (especially solar) and are getting off oil because of all the geopolitical risk that it entails (example: see Venezuela this weekend). There is one advantage to being an authoritarian government and not a democracy, they can do what's right for their country and their people, rather than have their right-wing politicians be bribed by a desperate oil & gas industry, to push for a fuel source that should've been moved away from a decade ago.
The world is going to care less and less about fossil fuels as time grows on; while Alberta keeps dreaming of the good old days, other countries are increasingly going towards renewables.

Yes, that's right let's get rid of Carney and elect the MAGA-loving moronic slogan slinger, Poillievre. The man who has only ever had two jobs: paperboy and then 20-years as a politician who passed no bills, did nothing for his constituents so they voted him out finally last year only to watch him scurry in desperation to the safest possible, most PC-friendly region of Canada, to keep his job as party leader while enjoying taxpayer-funded limo, chauffeur, cook, and a mansion. He fights for the people! From the comfort of his luxury home and limo.
He still won't get his security clearance and has used every excuse in the book to avoid it, because he knows he would fail it. Never mind that he only beat Patrick Brown to be party leader thanks to the foreign interference provided by the right-wing Indian Modi government (also accused correctly of murdering Canadians on our own soil).
He's also been listed as one of the biggest purveyors of disinformation in Canada and I've watched him literally run away in a panic from reporters when he gets asked questions that he hasn't prepared for.

Let me offer up my own view of where we are on the road to the future here, starting with a few assumptions:
- Trump is a Russian stooge, a "useful idiot" that Putin has cultivated since the 1980s and has mostly relied on flattery to keep Trump as his pawn in US politics. More recently, with Russia facing huge looming economic devastation due to the ongoing invasion of Ukraine, I suspect Putin has finally shown Trump that he has damning evidence of Trump's pedophilia (Putin is running out of time, so he's using his "trump" card so to speak to compel Trump to do whatever is needed to force Ukraine to surrender, no more flattery or being Mr Nice Russian Guy)

- Putin has no interest in taking over America or Canada, he mainly wants control of the territories lost when the Soviet Union dissolved AND Putin wants to regain control of the UK, where, prior to the Ukraine invasion, Russian money poured into the area and was used to buy influence for Russian interests. The Russians love bribing right-wing politicians and podcasters to spread their messaging and propaganda.
- with Trump or some other right-wing stooge (JD Vance) as US president, Putin can rest easy as he goes after even more territory once he gets Ukraine (and all of Ukraine's rare earth minerals). More importantly, right-wing politicians work well with dictators: you bribe them with money, they leave you alone to do your conquering elsewhere in the world. That applies to Canada as well, especially the Federal conservative party, formerly the Reform Party, a group of Christian white nationalists who kept failing to get elected after years of always being caught spewing

JFC, so the US basically just replicated what Russia was trying to do with Ukraine, but did it successfully.
- Putin declares that Ukraine has been infiltrated by Nazis, vows to take over the country to "de-Nazify" Ukraine
- Trump declares that Venezuela is trafficking drugs into the US, will attack the country and its leader to put an end to the drug smuggling.
Most notable quotes from this article:
U.S. strikes Venezuela and captures Maduro; Trump says "we're going to run the country" for now
Trump says U.S. is "in the oil business" and will sell Venezuelan oil
More than once in his press conference, Mr. Trump mentioned Venezuela's oil. The country has the largest proven crude oil reserves in the world.
Asked by reporters about how the country would be run, Mr. Trump replied, "We're going to be running it with a group and we're going to make sure it's run properly."
In other words, someone from the Trump family, probably Trump's son-in-law, Jared Kushner, will be involved and will get filthy rich from the oil sales. The people on Twitter predicted last fall that this was the reason for his attacks on Venezuela, and they were absolutely correct. Now again, if you're Greenland or Canada, ask yourself just how safe you feel right now, when Trump can use any fake justification to take over your country and install his own people to sell off your resources?

Of course, there's another reason he invaded Venezuela...

It's my own personal bias but I don't think STORY writers will be affected by AI anytime soon. Other types of writing for sure, but I've been using AI regularly now for 3 years and I can attest to the fact that AI alone isn't going to generate a genuinely good, emotional story that resonates with a human audience (unless it literally rips off a pre-existing human-written story).
It would be nice if an author could just give a basic premise to a chatbot and have it churn out a masterwork that gets published and earns millions of dollars in royalties and gets optioned for a feature film, but from what I've seen, the writing is bland and cliched. I've had it try and write music lyrics too (just because my story needed a unique song for the characters to listen to) and I wasn't very impressed in that category either.

I saw mention of this Swan Lake playback on Twitter today, the suggestion was that it might be the end for Putin in 2026.
The Beginning Of The End For Putin? In Russian ‘Swan Lake’ Started playing on the Russian Doomsday military radio station UVB-76, a channel listened to across the country for secret signals, backed by conspiracy theorist. ‘Swan Lake’ the song has a significant meaning in Russian….
In the Soviet era and early post-Soviet Russia, broadcasts of Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky’s Swan Lake on state television became associated with major political unrest or transitions, and people familiar with that history have come to see it as a sort of code or signifier of turmoil.
In the 1980s Soviet state TV repeatedly interrupted normal programming to broadcast long recordings of Swan Lake on days when significant leaders died (such as Brezhnev in 1982, Andropov in 1984, and Chernenko in 1985).
During the August 1991 coup attempt against Mikhail Gorbachev, television channels reportedly showed Swan Lake on loop for hours or days while the leadership situation was unsettled and regular news was unavailable.
Because of this pattern, seeing Swan Lake unexpectedly on television became a kind of cultural shorthand in Russia and the former USSR for crisis or political upheaval sort of like a symbolic placeholder for when official news can’t or won’t be broadcast. Let’s see if anything comes of this, it could be nothing, it could be the beginning of the end for Putin.
Let's hope that's true. Putin's death would mean a huge benefit to the free world, a literal end to many of the things that have gone wrong with the US, right-wing politics across this continent, and some parts of Canada in the past decade. The Russians have had a huge hand in funding a lot of these activities.

Once you begin surrendering to Trump, he always wants more. You can’t appease a tyrant.
David Ellison’s CBS — after gutting DEI policies there, appointing right-wing hack Kenneth R. Bari Weiss had demanded changes to the segment.
The Ellisons — fils et père — have been seeking Trump’s support for their hostile bid to acquire Warner Bros Discovery, but Trump has been unhappy with recent episodes of “60 Minutes,” even under its new management.
Hence, the segment’s removal.
Sharyn Alfonsi, a long-standing “60 Minutes” correspondent who reported the segment that was removed, accused CBS News of pulling it for “political” reasons.
“Our story was screened five times and cleared by both CBS attorneys and Standards and Practices,” she wrote in a note to the CBS News Team. “It is factually correct. In my view, pulling it now, after every rigorous internal check has been met, is not an editorial decision, it is a political one.”
I’m old enough to remember when CBS News would never have surrendered to a demagogic president. But that was when CBS News — the home of Edward R. Early this morning a huge batch of 30,000 more redacted Epstein files were posted by the Trump administration - no doubt, part of this second release was due to the forthcoming lawsuit that was going to be filed by the Democrats over not releasing the entire set of files on Friday. Perhaps the hope was that it releasing such a huge number of files and right at Christmas time, that this would blow over by the new year...
Two problems for the Republicans: they are so utterly incompetent at even just redacting information that they again put everything out as PDF files. During the first release, it was discovered by many that since the crucial information was blacked out in the PDF file itself, then all one had to do was highlight the entire text, copy and paste that text into some other document and the blacked out information was now COMPLETELY VISIBLE. This allowed people to easily see what had been hidden in the first Friday batch (nothing new that wasn't already known though, and yes Trump was obviously in a lot of that hidden text). Clearly none of the Republicans heard about this bypass because for today's release, the files were once again only blacked out within the PDF file, allowing the same trick to be performed again....
[/url]
...which leads to problem 2 for our pedophile right-wingers. The new files have some new info that is far more incriminating for Trump.
