Did the National Lampoon Radio Hour air here? It introduced the world to John Belushi, Chevy Chase, Gilda Radner and Bill Murray, among others. They all ended up on SNL.
The show itself was shortlived. It only ran for about a year.
I'm not sure if the Radio Hour aired here, but the late night comedy shows played a lot of bits from the various Lampoon albums.
I particularly remember "The Immigrants" and a hilarious sketch where either Mr. Rogers, or a similar character, played by Christopher Guest, interviews a stoner jazz bass player, played by Bill Murray.
"Can you say Egg McMuffin?"
"Egg-a-muffin, yeah ... " 😄

My back up is the 736-free sex, free sex place.
I love pizza too. My go to is thin crust, well done, double cheese, Pepperoni and hot banana peppers. If I'm feeling it, I'll occasionally add ... horror ... pineapple.
I too use a local joint, one location that's been cooking up amazing pizza since 1975.

SOWNY » Bizarre Events Mar "Masters" Broadcasts On CBS » April 14, 2026 7:33 am
mace wrote:
Television coverage of the Masters has come a long way since the first telecast in 1956. CBS was permitted to broadcast holes 15-18 on Sunday only. The broadcast rights are awarded on an annual basis and at a pretty reasonable rate of under $1M. However, for that reasonable price that CBS gets, The Augusta boys have a say in who the sponsors are and how many spots can air during the broadcast. A few other rules CBS must follow. Negative comments about the course is a serious no-no. Discussion of the prize money is not permitted and fans must always be referred to as patrons. As a colour commentator, Gary McCord once mused that the greens are never cut at Augusta. Bikini wax is used to keep them so smooth. After that, he never worked another Masters.
The peculiarities concerning The Masters and CBS seem to be endless.
Even though CBS has carried the event for 70 years, Augusta National and the network only agree to a one year at a time contract. In order not to lose one of their most events,CBS pretty much agrees to anything Augusta wants.
Calling the gallery patrons is the most famous quirk, but the network can't say that a ball is in the rough, it's in "the second cut."
Augusta doesn't have a front nine and a back nine, it has the first nine and the second nine.
And Gary McCord was not the first announcer to run afoul of the club by using slightly unsavoury descriptions. In the 60s,Jack Whitaker was banned after referring to the patrons as a "mob." He was allowed to return to the booth several years later.
But for all their petty rules, all the other traditions, the green jacket, the par 3 contest, the Champion's Dinner, etc, make it my favourite event of the year.
And the complete ban of all cellphones is refeshing. And by complete ban, I mean complete. Don't put it on mute, don't turn it off and put it in your pocket. They are not allowed on the property. Leave it in your car or check it at the entrance.

I was watching CTV News at Noon and there was a story about PEI lowering the suggested age for colonoscopies from 50 to 45.
Reporter Maria Sarrouh said people aged between 45 and 50 would be eligible for a free test every two years. Only she didn't say eligible, she said illegible.
The saddest bit is when I went to YouTube to double check what I heard, I saw that the exact report with the exact mistake also played last night,so editors had at least two chances to fix it.
The offending bit is at the :27 mark. I just watched it again and she makes the same mistake at the end of the report.

I guess I've been spoiled by the very readable graphics that Sportsnet uses for the Jays games.
SOWNY » BN/CP's Rose Kingdon RIP » March 28, 2026 7:52 pm
Longtime BN/CP reporter, editor and audio supervisor Rose Kingdon has died.
It's very sad for me as I worked closely with Rose for almost thirty years. From the days when we worked side by side on the overnight/early morning shift to when she very deservedly was promoted to audio supervisor.
While in management she treated all the staff with tremendous respect. And she was very kind to me personally. When my mother was diagnosed with end stage pancreatic cancer and moved into a hospice, she made sure to schedule my shifts so that I could visit Mom every day for the last few months of her life. I'll never forget that.
She was always good for a few good chuckles when I'd drop by her office for our daily chats.
Perhaps the saddest part of her death is she took retirement a couple of years ago, but was hit by an onslaught of health problems that continued until her death. She never got to enjoy her retirement at all.
Rest well Rose. You will be greatly missed.

I'm not sure I'd call FM a "great" movie, but I sure love it. One of the best soundtracks ever, especially the Steely Dan title track.
I'm glad they included Comfort and Joy, a hilarious tale set at Christmas time about a Scottish DJ who gets caught up in a war between rival ice cream truck operators.
Made by Bill Forsyth, who also did Local Hero. Both feature music by Mark Knopfler.
SOWNY » Why Texting & TV Don't Always Work Well Together » January 8, 2026 7:40 pm
I've noticed that one network program shows texts onscreen with a large, very readable font. Unsurprisingly it's Matlock, which has an older skewing target audience, making it much easier for us oldies to read them.
One of the shows which makes it difficult to read texts is Coronation Street. They frequently show texts, or laptop screen shots that are brief and in a small font.
Speaking of Corrie, they did an interesting show recently. The entire program was comprised of security cam, spy cam and police body cam footage, complete with time codes. It was quite effective.

I bought my first VCR in 1985, mainly because I worked days as a rookie copy writer and wanted to watch Coronation Street, which then ran in the afternoons, and David Letterman, which was on late at night.
My first was an RCA model which amazingly had on screen programming. It was a breeze to set up my recordings.
It was the first of many VCRs I had over the next 20 years. I finally got a DVR in the mid 2000s. It was an RCA Scenium and I had to go to the States to buy it because it wasn't available here.
As soon as my then TV provider (Star Choice) offered a DVR I opted in to that.
My current DVR, provided by Bell Fibe, has been pretty much faultless since I got it in mid 2020.

The only problem was the copy of the record we had was not in great condition, and it used to skip and I'd have to frequently run into the booth to un-skip it.
