Just heard one of the surviving Ontario liberals, Mitzie Hunter, chatting with Oakley re the budget.  Let's hope she's never interviewed by Kelly Cutrara.  It might go something like this:
"We now welcome Mitzie Hunter, y'know, liberal MPP.  Welcome Mitzie!"
"Nice to, y'know, to be here, Kelly!"
"Y'know, y'know, y'know, y'know, y'know?"
"Y'know, y'know, y'know, y'know, and I might add, y'know, y'know, y'know!"
"Thanks for, y'know, being here, Mitzie!"
"Any, y'know, time, Kelly!"

The lineup of guest hosts for the vacationing John Moore has been solid so far.

John Pole mentioned a few times this morning that the afternoon drive team from the Rush, Ryan Doyle and Jay Michaels will be taking over hosting the morning show next week.

There's no reason to believe that John Moore will not be returning, but if/when he decides to hang up the headphones, Ryan and Jay would be one of Newstalk's options for the morning show.

I don't know John, but would think that while he loves doing 'Moore In The Morning', the tight constraints of a morning show, little time to be creative, have interviews and conversations, would be frustrating.

Would there be a chance of John returning to afternoons, with the Rush guys staying in mornings? It would be less prestigious in a way, (in some people's opinion ) but he'd have Moore room to do the sort of show he did when he filled in for Evan Solomon that Friday afternoon. John clearly really enjoyed the looser format. Golf in the early morning, show prep, show in the afternoon...

I thought Trafford and Pohl did good jobs.  The tag team twins may be tiresome, but if it's a choice between them and the 'Moon Unit and Mike' show on 640, maybe I'll have to give them a shot.

Does Canada have freedom of expression, or not, and who decides what is right, and what is wrong?  I don't agree with most of what the alt-right espouses, but I don't agree with most of what the ultra-left espouses, either.  I want to hear all opinions, philosophies, prejudices and acceptances, and make up my own mind.  Shouldn't we all be able to decide for ourselves what we believe?  Isn't that what 'freedom' is all about?

Last week on one of 1010's morning 'Roundtable' segments, one of the panelists was railing against the Carbon Tax or something, and angrily said 'God Damned' several times.  No big deal to me, but not the kind of thing you hear that often, even these days.

I notice that Tasha Khierrddiann (sp) is still shilling this crap on 640, even though she's been off the air for a couple of months. She even drags her 'On The Spectrum' daughter in to flog them as well.  Shameless.

One doesn't have to agree with what a columnist writes, to find it thought-provoking.

My favourite radio segment of the week is when Conrad Black joins John Oakley to chat about the latest headlines on Fridays.  Intelligent, measured, and honest radio.  Great stuff, if you haven't heard it.

April 4th is National Hug a Newsperson Day (formerly National Hug a Newsman Day).  Each year this day gives everyone the opportunity to say “thank you” and hug their local newsperson. The Merriam-Webster dictionary tells us that the word “newsman” dates back to 1596. They have been working hard for many years to bring us the news from around the world.

Here is the link to the  hug a newsperson website...

https://nationaldaycalendar.com/days-2/national-hug-a-newsman-day-april-4/

My question is... which newsperson would you hug and why?

Only real answers and not "fake" answers...

For me it would have been Peter Mansbridge...more out of respect for his work through the years...

I'd hug Dana Levenson, but I'm afraid she might break my ribs with her rippling 'Pythons'.

Seems like kind of an odd choice.  Does he have any newspaper business experience at all?  Doesn't that top position need at least a basic understanding of the industry, not to mention all its current challenges?  Oh well, good luck to him.

In the mid-80s, we rented a cottage on Rice Lake.  We only got the usual 2 or 3 channels, of course, so our then-little kids watched a morning childrens' show called 'Oopsy The Clown', that I believe was an in-house production out of the Peterborough station (it could have been London).  Cheesy and kind of creepy, but kids will watch just about anything at that age.

Never cared for the Giant, nor Mr. Dress-up, nor any other boring Canadian-made kids stuff.
The Buffalo channels was where it was at, with Rocketship 7, Commander Tom, Flintstones during the lunch hour (some kids actually went home for lunch in the 60s), cheesy Superman re-runs... Promo The Robot was a god, I tells ya!

Don't forget Captain Kangaroo

Absolutely.  I was raised on the Captain and Mr. Greenjeans, then graduated to Rocketship 7.

Listening to Cutrara on 640 this morning, interviewing some guy who wants to make a Toronto 'Neon Museum', I reached my limit.  Between the 2 of them, not a single sentence was uttered without someone saying 'Y'know' at least 3 times.  "Y'know, does Toronto have, y'know, a history of, y'know, Neon signs and other, y'know, Neon artifacts?"
"Well, Kelly, y'know, Toronto had, y'know, famous neon signs, y'know, up and down Yonge Street, on, y'know, bars, restaurants, clubs, y'know, that the city was, y'know, known for!"
Goodbye Kelly Cutrara.  Hello Tom McConnell.  Back to 640 at noon.

On the episode posted today of Toronto Mike with guest Marc Weisblott (of the "12:36" newsletter), around the 70 minute mark, Marc recollects that there were two co-host tryouts with John Moore (one being Barb) and that Moore himself confided on-air he was "burned out" and that "he went to management" and told them he needed some help on the shift - then suddenly on vacation.

It'll be interesting to keep an eye on the slot and see what changes might transpire - and with a possible co-host?

When you get right down to it, it's not really different than watching old videos of deceased artists performing.  It's a projected image of dead singers.  Personally, I would never pay for a ticket to see a hologram, though.

Vanstone's future likely won't be affected negatively by her 'performances' on behalf of the Ford government, unless she ever applies for any kind of employment at the Toronto Star, who would probably have her arrested is she set foot on their property

I like McConnell, and often put him on in the morning when I can't take any more of Agar's bombast or Cutrara's irritating 'Y'know' habit.  Some of his regular callers are a bit much (Sonny from Richmond Hill is a daily annoyance), but he's a breath of fresh air from the usual Toronto suspects.

Heard several times on 1010's Round Table this morning;  Panelists beginning a comment with "I dunno", followed by the usual number of "Y'know"s thrown in for good measure.  Let me get this straight; YOU don't know, but WE know, so what is the point of having you offering opinions?

Of course talk radio steals from newspapers.  They always have.  They also steal from Twitter, Instagram, YouTube, Facebook, and any other medium that is spitting out material for the masses. They don't have the resources to actually break stories, or bother to research anything.  I accept that.  Half the people on radio these days have connections to newspapers, so there is some give and take.

Male or female matters not.  Intelligence, intuition and reason matter most, and not saying 'Y'know' every 5 seconds helps, too.  That narrows down the competition.
