It does seem 1010's news department is becoming increasingly Mickey Mouse. I wonder why?

Could it be because there's no Dave Agar in the Dave Agar Newsroom?

In Montreal we had Johnny Jellybean. loved him.
I don't know if he was just local or not.

Also watched The Friendly Giant, Mr Dressup, Romper Room and Chez Helen, which I'm certain was just local.

It's not about what is said as much as how it's said. I'll always welcome a factual and well-constructed argument regardless what side it epitomizes.

That made me chuckle.
To me, Shurman's usual "method" seems to be to take a caller, cut them off after five or ten seconds and launch into another monologue until the next station break. The man loves the sound of his own voice.

It's impossible. He was on air live with Oakley at 640 at the exact same time as Wynne was over at 1010. So unless he had an earphone in his ear with a radio set to CFRB, there's no way he could have heard it.

Now hold on!
I heard him tell Ryan he said he was going to find efficiencies to cut the deficit and debt yet cut our hydro bills in half and eliminate income taxes for anyone making less than $30,000. Surely, anyone able to do that should be able to do an on-air interview on one station while listening to another one at the same time. Ryan accepted all that without question. Why can't you??

Have some Kool-Aid. You'll understand everything then.

I agree. The Liberals were certainly comfortable with the idea of going to the polls against Brown. I think the knives came out because, after Tory and Hudak, another centralist leader was just too much for the far right faction of the party.
Then along came Dougie!

How many of these retention call centres are actually operated by the Telecos and not outsourced to someone else?

Retention is almost always in-house. 3rd parties are used primarily for run-of-the-mill customer service calls - billing/ balance inquiries, routine account changes, etc. If anything more complicated comes up the call will be transferred to in-house Customer Service or Repair. Retention is a tier up from Customer Care and customers cannot usually reach them directly but must be transferred in from Customer Care.

Yes, seriously.  These days, with stations hungry for any ad revenue, do all these shills get paid, or is it part of some kind of arrangement between the advertiser and the station?  Nothing would surprise me.

I've often wondered that myself.

Having worked for Rogers for 16+ years before getting that "Tuesday Tap", I can tell you that this has always been the case "post Ted".  The focus is always on short-term share price as the suits will leave after 5 years and cash in their stock options.

When Jack Berkovits first went on air at was then called AM 640 a few months ago, I listened to his premiere show out of curiosity. The one thing I distinctly recall him saying at the start of it was that it was not a sponsored show, that it has nothing to do with his businesses and that it was a serious outlet for exploring serious issues.

LOL
I remember noticing that as well at the time.

"I found it amusing that when one of his ad spots came on during his premier broadcast, he apologized profusely ("That wasn't suppose to happen. It won't happen again.") and said he wanted to keep Jack the show host & Jack the jeweler completely separate. That lasted until the next show. Now, in addition to the ads, he even works his deals into his discussion."

SOWNY » Frequent CFRB Guest Billing Taxpayers For Jerry Agar Appearances » September 5, 2017 10:54 am

Annunziata was just on Agar’s show defending his actions.

Among other things, he insisted anew he was boosting his area and therefore the expenses were legit. He noted he “pays for his own parking,” as if that’s supposed to mitigate the billing. And he made sure to note that other councillors spend even more per year on other expenses – which, of course, is completely besides the point.

Agar explained that the reason he can’t just "phone it in" is that the station won’t let him, demanding anyone who’s going to be on for an hour has to be there in person and not on a POTS. But he didn’t say anything about whether he thought this was a waste of taxpayer money and concluded the conversation with, “see you next week.”

I’m not sure if this says more about Annunziata or Agar. I’m never surprised when a politician does something self- serving. But I expected more from the CFRB host, who has been railing against taxpayer abuse on air for decades. Unless, I suppose, it's your show's ox that's being gored.

I quite like Agar (and Stafford, as well up the dial and frequently switch between them) I don't mean to be hyper critical, but I find this to be hypocritical. And a real disappointment he didn't take a stronger stand.

Not sure why you're surprised. This is pretty much modus operandi for anyone like Agar who is ultra-right - something happens? Check the playbook and figure out how you can spin it to fit your agenda. Play it up, play it down, ignore it, make excuses. And before anyone blows a gasket, yes, the same applies to the far-left too. I don't think either extreme is capable (or willing) to actually look at an issue from an objective standpoint and support it or criticize it without letting their political loyalties or affiliations colour their view.

Referring to his stint as a MPP for the Progressive Conservatives.
