Don't shoot the messenger. They ALL get their forecasts from Environment Canada.

As an old friend and meteoroligist/ TV weather guy for 30+ years used to say "Don't blame me, I'm just the messenger, talk to the big guy in the sky"

Hopefully Global will give Jayden Lee-Lincoln the coaching that was so obviously lacking at CTV London.

At the anchor desk her constant mispronunciations and uneven reads was amateurish and she seemed more interested (to me at least) in how she looked and what she was wearing, more like a fashion model than a News anchor/ reporter. And don't get me started on the chandeliers or giant hoops she would have on her ears.

With the right coaching and wardrobe choices I think she could be very good and I wish her all the best in Toronto.

Very well done documentary for the 75th anniversary of WDIV.  The station signed on as WWDT March 4, 1947, and two months later on May 15th changed call letters to WWJ-TV to match the radio station.  The station became WDIV in July 1978.

Last night's show was two hours and took us up to the mid 80's.  It looks like there is a part two called the Reunion coming up at 10pm on Wednesday November 23rd.

Last nights show is on the WDIV website and well worth the time to watch.

WDIV is owned by Graham Media Group which owns seven television stations with WDIV  the anchor in the chain.   The company also owns three radio stations.  Head Office is in Detroit.  Graham Media is a division of the much larger and diversified Graham Holdings, the former owners of the Washington Post.

I found it interesting but I was rather disappointed. To me it was disjointed and seemed slapped together, not what I expected from a station I admire.

I think they needed a host to take us through the various eras they were presenting. There was some great vintage video and interesting stories, like their "Count Scary" being inspired by channel 9's SCTV...That would be Windsors' channel 9, not sure if it was CKLW-TV or had become CBET by then. Also, Bozo the clown transitioning to Oopsy the clown when copyright issues came up. Bob McNae was the clown and he later took his character to CKCO-TV Kitchener for a decade or so in the 80's-90's.

Lots of good content but  not presented in a way I would have expected from WDIV.

There are very few radio stations that actually have live programming overnight so it doesn't really matter... just program the computer right LOL.

I remember when I was doing live overnight radio and asking the boss if I'd get an extra hour of pay. He said I'd get the hour back in the spring. He wasn't wrong, but stillhttps://cdn.boardhost.com/emoticons3/wink.png

I don't know the man but looking at his LinkedIn profile he has no news experience listed, just 22+ years as a talk show host. Running a newsroom isn't a talk show and it sure isn't easy. I speak from 18 years of experience doing it. From a viewers' perspective the CTV London newsroom needs a lot of work. I wish him lots of luck because I think he'll need it.

Over the top is an understatement. The Michigan negative ads by Republicans claims Gov. Whitmer wants to put a drag queen in every classroom and another says a school district candidate wants to teach grade school kids how to change their gender. Almost all Democrat candidates are attacking their opponents stand on the the abortion issue. It's brutal but generates lots of revenue for the Detroit stations I guess.

Meanwhile in Ontario it's municipal election day and I've not received a single flyer or knock on the door from ANY candidates for mayor, councillor or school board trustee. I have heard some radio ads but that's about it. From one extreme to the other.

That is weird that they'd send the anchor to Windsor to do the London news.

Carlye Fiset is an excellent anchor, dare I say much better than the main Mon-Fri anchor Rita Ismail (in my humble opinion). She has a great back story but he is far a more professional broadcaster.

Rogers made me pay an extra $6/mo for the US network channels when I upgraded to Ignite last year.

I thought it was ridiculous at the time and still do since that was the original purpose of cable... to bring in a better picture on the American networks. So despite paying well over $100 for tons of channels I don't want I had to pay extra to get the ones I did.
Thanks Rogershttps://cdn.boardhost.com/emoticons3/silly.png

When Mayim is there she is introduced as "the host of Jeopardy" and when Ken is there he is introduced as "hosting Jeopardy" a small distinction which to me implies she's the host and he's just filling in when she's away.

While I don't dislike Mayim, for me Ken is the far better host for this show, especially when he adds comments based on his experience as a contestant.

In the summer I signed on the station at 5:55am and put it on the full 500 watts rather than 250 for the first half hour (pattern change was to be at 6:30). I didn't think it would matter much until the station recceived a complaint from a ship on Lake Erie. I couldn't believe it but signed on with 250 watts after that LOL.

There was no audio for the show itself but the commercials were loud and clear!!!

I flipped over to the ball game (the Jays bats were working well) and checked back every now and then... it seems audio was present for the final 10 minutes or so of the show.

I don't think there was a single graphic advising of "audio difficulties" which I find unacceptable.

CJCS 1240 didn't have much power (I almost said juice LOL). I started on air there in 1968 and it was 500 watts by day and 250 at night... while on the evening shift one night  the chief engineeer came running into the control room to ask why I hadn't called to tell him we were off the air... the answer, because we weren't.  He just couldn't get the station in the middle of town! I believe they eventually went up to 1,000 watts in the 80's and had a much better coverage area.

After the flip to FM I was driving over that way from Kitchener and decided to hear what it sounded like. At the Perth county sign I dialed up 107.1... it was still Q107 until almost the Stratford city limits. The coverage area was even smaller than the old AM signal. I thought that was rather sad.

I hope it’s okay to open a new thread not specifically about the CRTC decision but about the CBC’s mandate in general.
I have always thought that the job of the CBC should be to have something for everyone but not everything for everyone.
As a middle aged white guy they schedule shows I like for when I listen.
On the morning drive I have Metro Morning and the Current. On my lunch there’s Ontario Today. On the drive home it’s Here and Now, the World at Six and As It Happens.
On the weekend there’s Day 6, the House and Cross County Checkup.
If I need music or more news and talk there are places to get them on the radio in every city and town in Canada.
Now imagine you’re indigenous, or you’re gay, lesbian or trans in any community outside of Toronto. Where would you ever hear a radio show for you other than the CBC?
I don’t think the CBC was ever designed for 9 to 5 listening for any one person. It’s a patchwork of individual shows for different segments of the population.
If a show you like isn’t on when you want it, listen on demand on their app or download their shows as podcasts. You can time shift everything nowadays.

You nailed it Tomas Barlow!!!

Saying Fox News Channel is a major news network is a bit of a stretch... it's a news network in name only, it's really a talk/ opinion channel. I have tried to watch it while in the US but just can't stomach it. The Trump cult seems to lap it up though... anyone have enough Kool Aid for them?

While I believe what Jennifer has said is 100% true I hope she has definitive proof of her allegations. Failing video and/or audio evidence it's a "she said-he said" situation, however the additional former co-hosts who have corroborated her remarks certainly work in her favour. Best of luck Jennifer, you endured the abuse much longer than I could have.

And since tomorrow is the Victoria Day holiday don't expect any local news at all on CTV London, two episodes of Cash Cab are scheduled for the 6-7 time period and an etalk rerun at 11.
