Speaking of Canada AM, does anyone know how Norm Perry is? He was at Newsworld for a few years after leaving Canada AM but I don't think I've heard anything about him since the 90s. I haven't found any obituaries so I don't even know if he's still with us. The brief Wikipedia article on him says his career started in the late 1950s so he must be in his late 80s or 90s if he's still alive.

He is 72. If he's just retired all his staff would have been laid off. As for O'Reilly's take, continuing for 6 years after you supposedly "blew up" your audience isn't exactly cause and effect.

This means 680 is Rogers' last remaining all-news station. Are there any non-Rogers all-news stations (as opposed to "news/talk" or is 680 the last of its breed in the country?

It's been months since Alex Pierson was last heard on AM640 and we now know she's not coming back - although the reasons why still aren't exactly clear. (Despite this, her show listing remains on the station's website.)

The place has been limping along with not-so-great replacement programming in the 12-3PM timeslot ever since. Shaye Ganam is a fine broadcaster, but his show is so heavily about Alberta issues and politics, that it's almost irrelevant in both Toronto and London.

The reroll of "The Last Show With David Cooper" was bad enough the first time, without being endlessly rerun the next day. And if they really are planning to replace Pierson with CFNY's Drex, as some here have suggested, they should just get on with it already. (Although why he'd want to leave a much higher rated gig for a show on a station at the bottom of the heap is beyond me.)

I know Corus isn't exactly flying high financially right now, but they really do need to fill this slot with something better than is there now or risk losing even more listeners. The question is who - and when?

Steal Mark Towhey from his rare fill-in duties on 1010.  He'd probably come with a relatively low price tag, and is vastly superior to 'Drex', or any of the out of town subs that make the current show practically unlistenable for a GTA audience.

Maybe hire someone who isn't an ideologue? Certainly there can be more to talk radio than being lectured to by different varieties of right-wing dogmatists all day. Currently, 640 and 1010 seem to have the political spectrum covered from A to C.

6 to 13 weeks was the norm for British sitcoms and dramatic series as far back as the 60s.

Steptoe and Son, for instance had between 6 and 7 episode seasons in the 1960s - and didn't run every year.

The US network standard of 26 weeks was not the norm internationally. Part of that was British series were generally written by one or two writers where American network shows had writing rooms with dozens of writers.

I've heard that CFRX is a 'labour of love' for the engineers and perhaps ham operators who keep it going. They don't charge the company for their work. Still an old 1KW transmitter will probably consume 2 or more kilowatts of electricity which over time adds up. At 18 cents a kilowatt hour this equates to about $8.64 a day or $267 per month.

Yes, but the transmitter is over 40 yeaes old. Eventually it will need to be replaced.

With the closure of time station CHU this month, CFRX is the last remaining shortwave station in Canada (that is the last with a Canadian-based shortwave transmitter, as opposed to a Canadian programmer buying time on Radio Miami or elsewhere). How long before it bites the dust? I can't see Bell being interested in spending money once repairs, new parts, or a new transmitter becomes necessary.

CBC made the point of saying they  retain the name "Hockey Night in Canada". So what are they going to do with it? License it to TSN or Sportsnet? Air minor hockey games under the banner? Use it for a game show, sitcom, drama, or reality show?
