Does Eastlink really think that dropping 33 channels isn't going to prompt subscribers to demand a reduction on their monthly bills?

We are reaching out to let you know that on June 27, 2023 Eastlink will no longer carry Corus TV channels, which includes HGTV, W Network and Showcase. Global Television will remain in your channel lineup.

I won't mention the station to protect the not-so-innocent, but you'll know it was small when I say that I was one of four guys working in the newsroom, and the only non-smoker.  One guy chain smoked unfiltered Camels (I can speculate which byproduct of the camel was rolled in cigarette paper). He would read a noon newscast in the news booth, then do a 15-minute interview show at 12:30.  I had to do the 1:00pm newscast and would damned near suffocate on the smoke.  After the first couple times, I would prop open the door between the newsroom and the booth, and the one into the hallway, then point the floor fan into the booth to literally clear the air before I had to go in.  It worked best when I actually turned the fan on. 

 

I was trained with razor blade, grease pencil and splicing tape, back when radio was in black and white.  Still working in radio news all these millennia later, I thank gawd every day for electronic editing.  I do it to make clips for news stories so much shorter.  I feel for TV reporters, for whom it's not as easy, unless you want to cover a good chunk of a clip with B roll.

I never worked directly with Sandie, but in the same newsroom for just over four years.  She is a class act all around.

Buck and Joe are both excellent.
A catcher -- like a hockey goaltender -- knows the game so well, seeing it from the best vantage point in the sport.

Big surprise.  It's all about the money,  Bean counters call all the shots, and their prime purpose in life is to have more beans to count.

So I'll pose the question I often do on other platforms: Has anyone pointed this out to station management or are we just going to bitch about it here?

Honestly, the things some people obsess over.
Any meteorologist will tell you that a forecast is simply an educated guess.  Nothing in life is guaranteed.

So it took a few years, but cable and satellite took care of that little matter, didn't it?
Wasn't CKVR a CBC affiliate back then?  Part of the plan must have been disaffiliating and going independent.
 

I like the look (storefront, as it is called above) and the fact that the male anchors aren't wearing ties.  Makes them more relatable to the audience, as well as more casual.
 

I don't know if it has ever happened in Canada, but I do remember one time several years ago when there was a strike at the CBC, Knowlton Nash's National was interrupted by strikers smearing Vaseline on the camera lens.  After a few minutes of dark, Uncle Knowltie returned.
