Love Z103.

So glad they exist in the market.  To me anyway they are unique in the very wide variety of music they play which is unlike any other CHR in the area.  You can hear Morgan Wallen to Luke Combs to Benny Bennassi's Satisfaction with a healthy dose of 'gold' from the 90's and 2000's.

Noon hour Mix and Drive at five mix are Premium.

CIDC is a continuation of Energy 108 IMO when they left after an incredible run themselves.

Is CKEY (50 watts) actually broadcasting (or simulcasting) or is this a strong DX signal this morning?

^^ also CING's 'energy' 95.3 sounds a lot like Chum 104.5 to me whenvever i tune in and that's a monster signal that reaches all the way up to south Barrie i've noticed, at-least in my car.

Again; I don't know how 'Kiss 92.5' did, but I suggest one of two things to rogers... make 92.5 the City News channel OR make 92.5 the new '(old CFTR)'

Do the official numbers include data from out of market listening or they just simply omit that?

"We should note that, for Canadians,10% of radio consumption come from AM/FM live radio streaming. Let’s forge on."   I use TunedIn Streaming almost exclusively in my car up in Barrie.

We are in the new digital age.  Those who 'forge on' and adapt will do well.  '680 news' rebranding simply as 'city News' and being available in HD2 (Kiss 92's HD 2 signal) and Tuned In (for Tesla's etc) make it easier to tune in; especially considering many auto MFR's don't even include 'AM' anymore.  Actually I wouldn't be surprised if 'City News' takes over HD1 of 92.5 sometime soon.  CHR has music all over the dial in the GTA at Chum, Z, Virgin, 93.5 and even 98.5 which for sure has a few thousand lingering listeners.

Kudos to CIDC though.  I'm a long-time listener and appreciate their unique style with the talent and programming they have.

Very much reminds me of WBLS 107.5 when I was listening in New Jersey for the week w/Family back on New Years

I heard a promo at about 12:40pm that said 'Ontario, we hear you' ..meaning they are still marketing (a bit perhaps) this way north of the border.

I then loaded the WBLK app from the app store(iphone) and when it asked me to share my location, I clicked 'no thanks' and it let me stream 'BLK ' no problem.

I noticed that Flow98.7 sounds a lot different than 93.7 'BLK' which perhaps is a reason to keep it available.  A Lot of 'throw backs' on 'BLK' this afternoon too, recognizable songs and it was enjoyable.  Don't know but perhaps they upped their 'throwbacks' after the demise of local 98.9 in Buffalo?

Either way, it sounded good.

BLK’s been gold-heavy for years now. They decided (wisely) to grow older with their audience over chasing newer more fickle ones.

So I tuned in to Kiss 98.5 (WKSE) while driving around Vaughan, North York and Richmond hill daytime today from about 10am through about 2pm (daytime 'with Julia') and they are definitely back to full CHR with Top of the hour call signs and slogans like 'The Number One Hit Music station' and 'the Hottest Station in Town' (likely a pun at the 98.9 low power fly buzzing around).

Music and Energy were very CHR with music ranging from Morgan Wallen to Dua Lipa, Doja Cat, David Guetta, Taylor Swift, the Weekend, Latto -Big Energy,  Harry Styles, Ed Sheeran, Miley Cyrus etc.

I suspect their little foray into Hot A/C was more like a temporary tribute to WTSS at the time and now they've probably decided to hold on to their market of CHR.

As a kid in early 90s London, I recall my father’s presets being the four local stations that existed at the time - CFPL 980, CJBK 1290, CKSL 1410, and CHLO 1570. Not sure of the fifth station but given how frequently he went to Toronto back then probably 1050 CHUM, which we always listened to when in the GTA. Never remember him listening to anything on FM other than CBC.

These days living in BC’s Lower Mainland my 12 FM presets on FM are 5 Vancouver stations and also KISM 92.9 from Bellingham on the first set, and six Seattle stations on the second set; on AM I have a mix of Vancouver and Seattle stations.

Never been to BC. Are Victoria stations available in Vancouver?

My brother and his wife vacationed last year in Victoria. I asked him if Vancouver radio and TV were available there. He isn't a geek like I am, so he hadn't even tried it.

I lived in Vancouver for a year in 1995 and my buddy & I had met girls from Seattle (that would come up north to the dance clubs where the legal age was younger).  We went to Seattle often.

I loved KISM 92.9 and also the sound and energy of KUBE 93.3 jams plus 107.7 'the end' (Alternative) Seattle..
Z95.3 was a joke to CHR if it was even classified as such in 1995 while the Seattle stations had real grit to them..  Could pick up the Seattle stations with a bit of fuzz as far up as Coquitlam where I lived at the time on the car stereos and depending on what hill you were going up or down.

As a Kid near Barrie ontario in the 80's:

680 CFTR and AM640

Then while living in North York (in my 20's, early 30's, into alternative, rock and high energy music)
FM:
107.9, 103.5, 107.1, 102.1, 102.5, 98.5

I'm in Barrie again now

Bounce 104.1, 97.3 Boom, Rock 95.7, 93.1fresh, CIDC 103.5 , 88.5 CKDX

Occasionally listen to: 91.1 Jazz Fm, CBC radio one for news / gardening shows, 99.9fm if my kid's in the car, Q107 and 104.5

Although I have many options as I subsribe ($13.99cad/mo) to 'streaming and internet' on my Model Y so I often stream Joe Rogan (Spotify )
and other podcasts (Rich Roll, Plant Strong podcast, the Loonie Hour, Captain Paul watson foundation podcast).

I listen to a lot less music nowadays in my late 40's and as the statistic goes, I rarely like new music I hear and quite often the reason I like it is that it's a remake of a great song from the 80's for example. #fastCar

Also Tesla has it's own music master streaming service that can 'make a radio stream' out of just one song for a genre of unending music.

Tune In also available as part of the Tesla streaming and so I listen to KUMU 94.7 Hawaii (Works here in Canada), and some of the Toronto stations via Tune In like Boom 97.3 for a more clear audio up in Barrie.

what's the 'K' stand for?

Are we really going to see marketing for 'K-love' in bus shelters in the GTA and considering Metro Toronto/GTA's massive population, do we even have a local christian station?  on AM?

How about other religious stations .. islamic, jewish etc, is there any restrictions or regulations on this by the CRTC?
Curious considering Toronto's multiculural make up.

I hope it re-emerges.  I used to live in Vancouver in 1995 (and 2016) and noticed C89.5 Seattle KNHC I believe each visit near or south of the border.   Seattle's school radio station also shows up in Arbitron ratings regularly for the region.  Back here, Rav 90.7fm might 're-open' late 2023 according to Wikipedia.

I wonder if it's possible for more high school stations to pop up in Canada here.

I wonder what WKSE thinks of all this??

I listened to WKSE the other day while at the esso service station (HWY 400s near Vaughan) in the evenings and realized that Audacity has really gutted the station of most of it's character.  Very few talent on air, nothing really that special anymore.  The enthusiasm you could hear during the evenings of the 90's especially with DJ Anthony, Kiss 10 @ 10 was gone.  They don't even have their own website anymore; it's just a subdomain of audacity.

in south Barrie, the weekly flyers (and there are a lot of them) were delivered inside the Barrie Advance newspaper which leads me to believe there is big money in advertising and Metroland could have easily funded the continuation of the paper(s) if they allocated some of the flyer revenue.
