So, the advertisers? I look forward to her upcoming column lamenting the increase in "sponsored content," especially online, and the way it's being increasingly disguised.

Though I suspect that column isn't arriving anytime soon.

It's going to come down to how much Youtube and co. are willing to inflate these prices. Theoretically, they can make much better use of the ad time because of their ability to micro-target audiences in a way that broadcast can't, so they may be the winning bidders sooner than later.

Never seen a station at 0.0 before. How can a station have zero listeners?

It's share of tuning, not a listener count. So while Elmnt certainly has "listeners" - meaning people that listened (well...heard) to them at some point, the combination of how many actually did with how long they listened didn't add up to enough to round up to a 0.1.

We really don't see the kind of detailed article about any of the above as we used to about quarterly radio ratings or comings and goings. Broadcast media used to hold a much higher level of interest than any of those, but I'm not sure it does anymore.

If I were a news editor looking at Toronto radio, the only stories I think would have been newsworthy from the last year or so would have been Roger Ashby retiring, Flow 93.5 returning to Hip-Hop, and the goings-on at Jazz fm.

I'm not sure how much public interest there really is. We have so much data today about anything we want at our fingertips, and I don't know if TV/Radio ratings stand out enough that they warrant being published beyond where those who care can look them up. Even my post HERE, of all places, with the numbers that matter only got a smattering of interest.

On top of that, the numbers that can be published, especially for radio, (2+/12+) really are more meaningless than ever, in that they don't represent how well the stations are doing against each other.

TL;DR: Motown is almost exclusively centred in the 60s - a decade disappearing from Classic Hits out of demographic necessity.

CHUM has done an amazing job at transitioning from R&M to M&J and whatever they have planned next. Their marketing seems to have been quite effective, too.

And you mention the music being on-point -- so they're 3/3 in the magic combo of Music, Marketing, and Mornings that are usually the key to success.

Young people don't watch TV and baseball's audience will die of old age unless they go where young people are.  They got online with live games with MLB.TV 15 years ago before any other league thought to do it and now the NHL pays MLB to run its digital division.  This is the next step in the evolution of streaming and baseball is leading the way again..

I don't doubt what you're saying to be true (the ageist dig aside!) but how do they monetize this? A younger audience in particular is notorious for feeling everything on the web should be free. My own apparent ageism reference in that last sentence notwithstanding,, do they really think the demo they're seeking will shell out the bucks for an eventual subscription model? Maybe for Netflix but I'm not so sure for MLB.

How long can they afford to just give it away? Fifteen years (and counting) is a long time with no apparent returns.

Ads. Lots of ads. It's what they do.

My question continues to be "why?" What does MLB get out of giving their games away for free on YouTube? In that case, why not a Jays game televised on City?  (And yes, I'm aware the Sunday games are on OMNI in Tagalog.)

I suppose the occasional freebie doesn't hurt and might encourage fandom or attendance if a team is doing well, but MLB loves money. How is this making them any?

Youtube would be paying them a considerable amount of money for this. Yes - you're right - everyone knows what Youtube is, but they're not known for live video, nevermind live sports. This is a toe in the water for Youtube...testing audience levels, technical feasibility, etc. Absolutely guaranteed that they will be in the next round of bidding for some pretty major sports rights.

This is all very misleading. The missed CCD payments and Cancon levels occurred before Mr. Gordon's death, and are blaming neither on that. They're asking for an extension to correct the CCD shortfall as their finances are tied up in his estate.

Coke not advertising on SW because of audio quality? No, they're not advertising becuase virtually nobody is listening and Coke's buyers probably don't know it even exists.

Overall though, even the most contemporary sounding jingles sound dated. At least if they're more than a couple seconds long. KiSS 92.5 uses very brief "This is Kiss" sings that mimic the song they're going into, but singing "#1 for Hit Music - KiSS 92-5" in full wouldn't work.
