Driving south on highway 115 from Peterborough I would be listening to101.5 the WOLF on from Peterborough until going down that steep incline just before Orono. WRMM would cause extensive interference making the WOLF unlistenable (much like the music on WRMM).

It happens in News too.
The News Director of the competing stations thought my morning newscaster was so good he sent an air check of the guy through his corporate channels and sure enough a larger market offered him a job which he took. I heard about what had happened from one of the jocks I knew at at the competing station, so I told the jock to let one of their news guy know I had an opening (obviously). I figured all was fair in the News game. The guy was interested and as a union operation our pay scales were much higher... when word got back to the other station what he was making I never had to look further than across the street for a newscaster or reporter again. Karma.

Global ALWAYS decides to delay the show start in order to get the simulcast. They usually fill the time with either News or Border Security which they can cut out of easily.

It's life as usual in Florida for those who aren't dying.

Governor DeathSantis as I heard him referred to doesn't believe in masks or any precautions... so the state is wide open, restaurants-- packed, bars--packed until 5am.

Their per capita Covid rate is way higher than Ontario's where we have a stay-at-home order.

As much as I would love to be in Palm Beach, there's no amount of advertising that could take me away from Ontario this winter.

So there was NO THREAT to burn down the station.
After reading the article it's clear the host, a NY state Assemblyman just made it up.
Seems to be a lot of re-writing the narrative going on in US politics these days.

Here's a link to the complete story...

It was CTV that eliminated sports coverage across the country and in local newscasts. CBC has always had excellent sports coverage.

I don't get how a BT National is going to be successful competing with CTV head on.

Several years ago CTV dropped Canada AM in many of its' markets in favour of CTV Morning Live (insert city) because local mattered more. Most of those morning shows did far better than the national Canada AM which continued on the CTV News Channel. They didn't do it in Toronto because a Bell owned CP24 was already doing a local morning show to compete with BT.

Many years ago Canadian stations were limited to 12 minutes of commercials per hour, that later became 14 and eventually no limits at all. I don't believe U.S. stations were ever regulated regarding the number of minutes of advertising allowed.

I agree RA, the US election is important but not the lead story. My local station ran several local stories before getting to the US election (at approx. 6:08) and there was very little new information in the report they ran but the local stories touched on matters that could impact my life.

I'm in the middle of an on line rating week and it's quite simple. You enter the time you start listening and stop listening from a drop box... then it asks you for the frequency of the station you were listening to. A list of stations comes up and you scroll until you find the right brand for your market and enter it. The next time period if you enter the same frequency your market station pops up first.

In the car I listen mostly to SiriusXM 60's on 6 or 70's on 7 but Sirius is not on the menu. You can add a station to the list if it's not there but since ratings mean nothing to SiriusXM I'm listening to local radio and recording them appropriately for this week.

For me the survey period started Monday and ends Sunday.

Global could have aired Big Brother at 8:00 (it wasn't a live episode) but chose to delay until 10, hoping to keep the CBS simulcast no doubt. Unfortunately for them, the football game ended early and CBS started Big Brother at 9:50... Global scrambled and got it on their network a few minutes later but missed the simulcast and by starting it before their promoted 10:00 air time managed to piss off fans of the show who missed the first 5 - 8 minutes of the show. Way to go Global. Not quite as embarrassing as more than 2 hours of blank screens on CTV channels, but still.

I got a new phone last week (my previous phone was so old I never received amber alerts on it).

The sound, just as I was getting ready for bed around 11:30 scared the bejeezus out of me and the text was almost undecipherable. It must have worked though because I read on cbc.ca this morning that the two young girls have been found and a woman arrested in Kitchener.

Annoying sound but a positive outcome in just a couple of hours... I'll take ithttps://cdn.boardhost.com/emoticons3/smile.png

Dan Carter, the current Mayor of Oshawa was a long time CHEX-TV Durham staple, producing and hosting many hours of local programming for many years. An interesting guy, he overcame much adversity in his early years and was homeless for most of his late teens and twenties. He didn't squeak in either, he got 69% of the vote in the 2018 municipal election.

YES... Dan and Joe were talking about the 'crowd noise' during a short segment of the game that I watched. Actually I didn't mind it, although at times I thought the ambient sound was a little too loud considering there was a sea of empty seats when the cameras went there.

The late night guys are doing okay with their "at home' editions. As far as opening monologues go... Steven Colbert is very good --with-- an audience, but in my opinion falls flat without one. Fallon is a little better and uses a lot of props but I've got to say Jimmy Kimmel is the best at working without an audience. He's truly a funny guy (IMHO).
