Looks like it's https://numeris.canadiana.ca/ .

From Numeris.ca I went "Client Toolbox" ( https://numeris.ca/client-toolbox/ ) at top right, then scrolled down and right near the bottom (second last menu option) is "Archives" which links to the above. Try a search keyword like "CFRB" or "CHUM" and you'll see some results.

thanks!

They haven't done "radio" per se, but the CP24 morning show has many similarities to an AC morning show.

They don't need to hit the post or do "bits".

The need to have personality, humour, and most importantly: chemistry. That's core. The rest of the radio stuff can be quickly learned.

Also, the real elephant in the room is that it will be the first major Toronto radio morning show anchored by a woman of colour. Don't under-estimate how big a deal that is.

I found this part of the press release to be kind of interesting....

"Joining Pooja and Gurdeep on the new morning show is 98.1 CHFI news anchor Christine Cardoso, and Blair Bartrem, who will serve as Executive Producer for CHFI Mornings with Pooja & Gurdeep"

Blair was Regional PD for Bell in Southwestern Ontario, prior to that he was PD of Virgin Montreal as well as being PD of Q107 for about 12 years and before that PD of The Mix (Virgin nowadays.)  Point being, based on his experience and track record he would be expensive.  Even though they are calling him "Executive Producer" of the morning show, it's still really morning show producer and I can't imagine that job would pay anywhere close to what he is worth.  Perhaps it was a way of getting him in to the company and he will eventually take on a programming role.

Not only that, but a quick google search reveals that he was only in his last job (Bell) for about 3 months. I've listened to Derringer and can't recall hearing him, so he must be a totally behind-the-scenes producer (unlike other music shows).

He was the PD.

I suspect once the CHFI show has its legs, he'll be consulting other shows within the company. Rogers dumped their American morning show consultants when the fall of the Canadian dollar made them suddenly more expensive.

North BayCountry 90.5 grabs the #1 spot for A12+ with an 18.6% share of hours tuned. Taking the top spot for F25-54 was Country 90.5, posting a 26.3%

Helluva start.

In the markets I'm familiar with, these numbers seem in line with what Numeris reported in the past.

Why would 1150 have to encode for PPM? Couldn't they just keep everything the way it was, but drop all of the local shows in Hamilton and essentially run CKOC as a rebroadcaster of CHUM?

The original point in the thread was that 1050 may be suffering in ratings because its signal doesn't cover the GTA as well as some other AMs. By simulcasting it on 1150 without encoding for PPM, not only do you not help the problem, you actually make it worse, as anyone who finds 1150 to be better reception is removed from 1050's ratings. The "better contour for the region" is true, but counter-productive from the business side. It's entirely possible that may have been a factor in bailing from sports on 1150 in the first place.

As for Bloomberg, the revenue is raised through syndication, which relies on potential audience rather than actual audience, as well as being sold holistically with TV, online, and other outlets. That's how all the TV subchannels in the US make money.

1150 isn't going to be sold on ratings either way, so the current approach works best.

I wonder if the frequency is part of the problem. Outside of the GTA 1050 gets hammered at night. I think 820 would make a far better home for them.

Not sure why Bell didn't keep 1150 as TSN and just simulcast 1050. This would've covered the GTHA much better and probably would rate better than simulcasts of Business News TV.

Makes sense in theory, but there's no "GTHA" unified ratings. In fact, Hamilton and Toronto don't even use the same system. They'd have to encode 1150 for PPM and pay to have it rated in Toronto, where it would appear as a separate station from 1050. It probably wouldn't even register.

As for Hamilton - no real benefit there as 1150 even with good local shows didn't make a dent. Doing Bloomberg, which doesn't depend on ratings for revenue, unfortunately would be the way to go for now.

Fame isn't permanent. If you can't be named now, you're, by definition, no longer famous.

In what way?

All multi-cultural stations run multi-cultural/ethnic programming on their HD sub channels.

Commercial stations are not limited with any requirements regarding format on any part of the license other than Canadian content, which seems to be echoed through their subchannels.

I would argue they are in fact in compliance/have approval on what is on their sub channels based on what the host license is.    I'm not a lawyer, but I would suspect, G987 would be required to carry ethnic based programming on their subchannels to remain in compliance without special CRTC approval.

G98.7 is required to air 50% world music. That's the extent of it.

KiSS 92.5 is required to operate as a category 2 music station, but is running two specialty formats on its sub-channels.

Energy 95.3 is required to run as a Hamilton-based category 2 music station, but is running a Toronto station's specialty format on HD2.

Indie 88's HD2 is running a rock format without their emerging artist requirement. Virgin Radio 99.9 is running a country format that doesn't sound like it's meeting Cancon to me.

I've been through a license renewal for a station with HD - the sub-channels aren't checked. It's a free-for-all; the CRTC cares about HD about as much as listeners do

Take the names and ratings out, then combine with this and you have your answer:

In its latest BCE quarterly report, Media segment revenue grew 14.5%, reflecting higher advertiser spending across all platforms and a 32% increase in digital revenue, which now represents 22% of total media revenue. Media operating revenue was also up 14.5% in Q3 to $719 million, driven by increased ad spending across TV, radio, out of home and digital media platforms as the economy continues to recover from COVID-19.

One other observation.  Corus got into trouble with one of their Hamilton stations relocating the morning show - to Toronto to try and break into the country radio market here.   I seem to recall that Gary Slaight filed a complaint with the CRTC, and the CRTC ordered Corus to cease and desist.  But that was a while ago.  Suffice it to say, the policies of the CRTC sometimes have teeth.

That frequency's morning show is back in Toronto again.

Yes, their ad rates would reflect the size of their signal. Not the most efficient way for an Orangeville business to advertise. On top of that, there are fewer and fewer truly "local" business every year. Not many stores in the mall making their own marketing decisions.

I think having the right morning show will actually be key to CHFI's success moving forward. They don't have a great music position, and they have CHUM on one end with an AC-age and massively promoted morning show, with Boom and an appealing music mix for CHFI's older demos on the other. Mornings on CHFI have been under-performing the station for a while now, especially recently.

I think "news anchors" isn't a fully accurate representation of what they did on CP24. There was a lot of room for personality and humour, and they had both. That show wasn't all that different from a radio morning show in a lot of respects.

Any obligation would be through their contract with the NHL, and could easily be taken out at renewal.

For Rogers, it depends how they want to balance generating revenue from having the rights - forcing subs to Sportsnet - and generating revenue from ratings (which having CBC is useful for.)

Example: 98.7 CKFG-FM is already a second adjacent frequency to CBLA-FM 99.1 in Toronto or use other frequencies for CJBC 860 on 89.9 FM, 92.9 FM, etc.

It would also be second adjacent to CJSA, and if I recall correctly, being second-adjacent to two stations that transmit from different sites is problematic.
