Thanks for the heads up RadioActive, and I mean that sincerely since when the Jays games are on Apple TV, it doesn’t appear in any conventional listings, like the newspaper, and I often miss them as a result, and I have Apple TV to boot! What’s with the 6:45 start time?!

Well did I have egg on my face as the Globe and Mail had the game listed in their TV Sports listings, and noted it was in Apple+, first time I believe. However, it wasn’t mentioned in the Star’s listings. Not the end of the world!

The key was to simply have a double cassette player.
Just stick a tape in, press record. Whatever you got, you got.
Then convert what you  want into another cassette for a master copy.
Save the first tape for re record and start over...

I would dream of having a double cassette deck!

I would tape the Top Twenty when I was a teenager and ended up recording the whole show as they really talked over the top of songs, right up to the posts, so I gave up on pausing. A few years ago I found one of those tapes and it still played, it was from 1976 I think, as Golden Years by Bowie was one of the songs. We sure worked for our music back then, appointment listening!

I remember they had a similar type of” machine” at Expo 67 and I begged my parents to let me try it every time we went. When they finally agreed to let me make “my record”, I froze after ten seconds and that’s all I got! I think I was over excited and experience stage fright for the first time!

This isn't about broadcasting per se, but it's such a terrible idea, I can just see Bell & Rogers drooling in anticipation and wondering "why didn't we think of that?" Let's hope they don't.

A New Zealand telco recently completed an experimental campaign that - wait for it - plays ads right before people are connected durng a phone call. It appears the idea was to reduce user's bills, but it's such an intrusive interruption that it would likely infuriate most of us. Still, you didn't have to hear the spot.

"...“There will be people who think, ‘instead of paying $40 a month, I’ll pay $5 and tolerate ads.’ There could be a legitimate business model there.”[/i][/b]

Skinny phone call ads: Why the telco tried a ‘dystopian’ campaign

The one problem I see with this is that Bell & Rogers would run the ads but still charge customers close to full service charges. They wouldn’t take much of a haircut if they control it and the consumer would end up with ads and little if any savings. Don’t go into the light!

Over the course of the weekend I received many posts on LinkedIn from former colleagues at Citytv/Rogers announcing their departures as they took the package. A few of them are hoping that they can still work in broadcasting and to them, I wish them luck.

It technically wasn’t a layoff but may as well have been. I think Rogers overextended themselves when they poached HGTV & The Food Network from Corus to add to the Citytv+ package, which allegedly isn’t catching on, thus all the promos. If Rogers only had some broadcast acumen, this type of thing might not be happening, but they seem stuck somewhere between community programming and OMNI and I don’t see that changing. Ted would not be happy!

Entertaining but I’m finding a lot of the AI stuff I see is somewhat creepy, can’t put my finger on it, but kind of like a fever dream without the fever. I think it is because I know it’s fake, but looks so damn real, disturbing!

Remember in the movie Gladiator, they “reanimated” Oliver Reed, as he died during filming. I found one of his scenes particularly weird, much like most of AI today. I will probably get used to it, eventually!

Many of you may have noticed that they’ve changed their jingle, same lyrics and melody, just less grating, if that’s possible. Them and Spence’s could go and not be missed, by me at least.

They were actually well made by today’s standards.

I watched Fireball XL5 on Saturday Mornings. NBC ran it at 10;30 following Underdog which I also enjoyed.

Fireball XL5 had one of the best theme songs ever! It's pretty much forgotten today, but it could have been a hit record. (I think it was released in Britain and reached #32 on their charts.)

Years ago I bought an album of Barry Gray compositions he had done for various Gerry Anderson shows, Fireball XL5, Stingray, Thunderbirds and a few others. It was actually a 10” and cost a bit as it was an import! I pulled it out last winter and gave it a spin, good stuff for a puppet show, highly orchestrated in some cases. I also have a collection of 7” singles with various Thunderbirds stories, the best part is the photo covers. Nostalgic fuzziness!

Ha!  I logged in specifically to mention this one.  I volunteered every year for the entire thing here in Toronto.  McDonald's used to cater it, and there were unending Big Macs, fries, and orange from those massive yellow barrels with the red top.  One generally out of the mainstream, which had Vodka accidentally fall into it.

I forgot about the “orange drink”, probably not the most popular item on the menu! BTW, good on you for volunteering back then, the whole thing really depended on people like you! All our phones were manned by volunteers for starters, so thanks for your time back then ig!

Drake sure did generate a ton of media with his recent publicity stunts but that news cycle died pretty quickly as I’m not reading nor hearing about it today so far. I wonder why he released three albums as opposed to spreading them out and potentially not splitting his sales. Still, the kids love him, I think. I heard a track yesterday and it sounded very old school, must be intentional.

8:55am - I stand corrected, CP24 just did a piece on Drake, and the beat goes on…….

For the price, these are a fairly good deal and I can imagine the audio quality is fairly decent. I have read though that battery life is shorter than “advertised “, as you pointed out, cash!  Still, you avoid clogging up your phone.

They could work out a deal whereas CHCH and some other broadcaster both cover the games, much like Bell & Rogers as they both air Leafs and Raptors games, it would also help to generate interest in Hamilton if locally carried, and Hamilton vs. Toronto for the championship would be something!

It is just called Dunkin’ now and I don’t mind them coming back to Canada, they have some decent breakfast options at least, and have really expanded their beverage selection, lots of fruity flavours. And their coffee is pretty good too! Plus the competition could be beneficial for the consumer as Tim Horton’s currently rules the roost.

Unscripted is so much cheaper to produce but has a short shelf life, that’s probably why you don’t see reality shows being rebroadcasted too often, very much of the moment. I have watched a few episodes but I prefer scripted programming, with real actors!

My pipe dream would be to somehow buy a FM station in a decent size market and have a station like the ones I used to listen to, with a mix of music, news and talk. I would of course be the music PD and would schedule a cross section of album tracks and slightly obscure hits, songs that don’t get airplay any more, and some world beat and the odd vintage country song. And this is why I occasionally buy a lottery ticket!
