SOWNY » Bill Carroll To Replace John Moore In 9-10AM Hour On CFRB » Today 7:20 am

As predicted, former Toronto host Bill Carroll - currently living and working on air at CFRA in Ottawa - will be the replacement for John Moore's final hour, as the local morning man looks to reduce his workload on CFRB.

In typical Bell fashon, the addition won't cost the company anything, since Carroll is already part of the company and is on the air from 6-10AM.

He promises an all local 60 minutes, even as he's also on covering Ottawa issues. It will be interesting to see how he pulls that off.

The change begins on Monday.

Never much of a fan, but despite his huge ego, at least Carroll always stuck to news and current events issues, with hard-nosed opinions, unlike the new breed of yakkers who seem more concerned with self-analysis, relationships and the latest season of The Bachelor.  He may be a welcome change from the drivel on 640 during that hour.  I'll give him a shot.

Why not?  He already shills for Frank Leo, even though he hasn't worked in the GTA for a dog's age.

Great idea.
But, I hope they don't make the same mistake that they did when they let Reshmi take over the rush.
Or another mistake they could make, they get the pro-america mark patrone on the far-right to take over.

No danger of Patrone coming over from Sauga 960. Besides, I think he lives in Florida, not that that would stop him from broadcasting to Toronto. But I'm 100% certain he's definitely not someone they would ever consider.

Good.
1010 is a normal centre-right and centre-left station.
Maybe bell will get mark towey as host permanently?
I would personaly love that.

Agreed.  Towhey for the win.

Rumour is the 9 to 10 am hour will be 'Frank Leo Presents', with 60 minutes of jaw-dropping success stories about desperate home sellers miraculously rescued by Frank, and his wonderful 'associates', brought to you by Jiffy App.  Don't miss it!

I have fond memories of the Ex as a kid, especially the Air Show.  Last time I went about 10 years ago, it was nothing but a tacky flea market.  No interest in ever going again.

I take it back.  Just heard it again on 640.  Marginally better than the show host.

What a fuster-cluck that station is.

Likely means the lawyers aren’t done lawyering just yet

Are they ever?

With John Moore continuing his one month sabbatical, replaced by John Tory, and Jerry Agar announcing he's also off for two weeks after Friday, it occurs to me we have something that happens only in the silly summer season: the entire morning run from 6 AM -12 PM on the station will have alternate hosts.

Not sure yet who's taking Agar's place until early August, but none of the regular line-up will be in. That doesn't happen often.

Won't miss Agar, regardless of fill-in.  With 'Dr. BS' virtually unlistenable on 640, I tune in Agar, but only until he starts blathering about his time in the U.S., or promoting his Saturday show with his Texas restaurant owning kid.  Haven't made it through an hour yet.  More and more these days, CKTB gets the nod.

I don't need an analysis after every swing, catch or throw. Also like Caleb Joseph in the booth too..but he should abide by the same rules.

And try to stick to the game at hand.  Joseph and Shulman will go off on some tangent about something, like the best steak in whatever town the team is visiting, and before they're done blathering, 2 batters have been up and the inning has ended without so much as a strike or ball count.

It's been months since Alex Pierson was last heard on AM640 and we now know she's not coming back - although the reasons why still aren't exactly clear. (Despite this, her show listing remains on the station's website.)

The place has been limping along with not-so-great replacement programming in the 12-3PM timeslot ever since. Shaye Ganam is a fine broadcaster, but his show is so heavily about Alberta issues and politics, that it's almost irrelevant in both Toronto and London.

The reroll of "The Last Show With David Cooper" was bad enough the first time, without being endlessly rerun the next day. And if they really are planning to replace Pierson with CFNY's Drex, as some here have suggested, they should just get on with it already. (Although why he'd want to leave a much higher rated gig for a show on a station at the bottom of the heap is beyond me.)

I know Corus isn't exactly flying high financially right now, but they really do need to fill this slot with something better than is there now or risk losing even more listeners. The question is who - and when?

Steal Mark Towhey from his rare fill-in duties on 1010.  He'd probably come with a relatively low price tag, and is vastly superior to 'Drex', or any of the out of town subs that make the current show practically unlistenable for a GTA audience.

It's not often you hear Jerry Agar doing the morning show on NewsTalk 1010, but there he was early on Thursday, subbing for an absent John Moore.

It's not clear what happened to the usual host, but whatever it was, it took place rather quickly. Agar admitted he had no idea he was going to have to do the early shift until the evening before.

Another odd thing about this change? Normally John Tory fills in for Moore, but this time, he's taking Agar's 10 AM-noon slot.

There's been no word about what happens Friday, but it sounds like things could be back to normal then.

Some choice, the unlistenable bloviating of Tory on 1010, or the unlistenable self-help guru on 640.  CKTB, here I come.

Golf provides some of the best sporting skill and drama in pro sports, but you have to play it to get it.  Anybody who says golf is easy or boring has never stood over a 4 foot putt on the 18th hole at the local muni to win 12 bucks in a skins game with buddies.

I hate to say this because it's about childhood cancer. But there's a spot running on the radio that I find absolutely unlistenable. It's such a tune-out, I have no real idea who it's for.

It's the commercial where a woman keeps saying "Imagine if your child had cancer. Now imagine if..." and on it goes with "now imagine" endlessly repeating various scenarios before it mercifully ends. Except I'm gone long before I can imagine anything because it's such an irritating message.

I assume it's for a charity. But if they really want to attract contributions, maybe it would be better not to drive people away before they tune out from the repetitive annoyance of the script.

I hope they hit a home run with their money raising campaign. But they need to change the pitch, first.

Agreed.  It's more depressing than the cause, and drags on far too long.  Speaking of tune-outs, one series of ads that needs to be put down is 80-something 'Burt Ward from TV's Batman' shilling for dog food, along with its annoying, indecipherable jingle.

Weekend talk radio in the GTA is a hopeless, dreary wasteland.  If one is lucky enough to stumble upon a rerun of Vassy Kapelos from days earlier, it's like finding an oasis in a desert of shilling and boredom.
