I did a little digging to see what Canadian stations are available on U.S. border city cable systems. BURLINGTON/PLATTSBURG-CBMT/CBFT/CFCF. WATERTOWN/UTICA-CKWS.  POTSDAM/MASSENA-CBOT or CBMT.  BUFFALO-CBLT/CFTO. TOLEDO/DETROIT-CBET/CICA. Erie and Cleveland currently receive no Canadian channels via cable. PORT HURON-Global[Oil Springs] BAY CITY/MIDLAND/FLINT-CBET or CBMT. Duluth receives no Canadian tv but Minnesota cable subscribers closer to the border have access to CBMT AND CKPR. CBWT and CKY are on North Dakota cable systems near the Manitoba border but not Grand Forks. Global Lethbridge and CFCN are on Montana cable systems near the Alberta border but not in Great Falls. Seattle cable only has CBUT. However, systems closer to the B.C. border also have CHAN/CHEK/CIVT.

Surprised but glad to see Police Squad make the list at #51. All six episodes are on Youtube. It was a parody of the 1957-60 NBC cop show M-Squad. The premiere episode had an almost identical storyline with a very similar script to an M-Squad one.                                                                                                                                                            Disappointed that Green Acres and Beverly Hillbillies didn't make the cut.

In another thread dealing with Rolling Stone Magazine's 100 Greatest Sitcoms, beside the article there was a Tawny Kitaen sidebar. She passed at her home in New Port Beach, Ca. Probably best remembered for appearing in a number of Whitesnake videos, including Here I Go Again. Kitaen also co-starred with Tom Hanks in Bachlor Party and was Jerry's girlfriend in the Nose Job seinfeld episode. She was also on the cover of the 1984 Ratt album Out Of The Cellar.

Back in 2007, Ken Bloom and Frank Vlastnik published a book entitled "SITCOMS: The 101 GreatestTV Comedies of All Time" It is not a ranking as all series are listed alphabetically. Lots of behind the scenes information including original network run and number of episodes produced. You probably didn't know that Johnny Carson was seriously considered for the role of Rob Petrie. What really makes this book stand out is the photos. Particularly the colour shots of series that were filmed in glorious B&W. And yes RA, Green Acres and Burns & Allen are in the book.

Hey? I have a landline! It gave me something to talk on when Rogers cell phone service went out for a day.
I also use it to call my cell phone when I can't find it...god help me if someone ever answers though... lol
I still have a landline also and yes there have been several instances where I have called my cell to locate it

I . .ditched my JVC VCR about five years ago when I upgraded my entertainment system. There was no room on the power bar for it. The only things still in use from my original stereo system [March 1979] is the dual 504 turntable and the AR15 speakers.

The station seems to have a much wider playlist than most oldies stations. I have had to use Shazam several times because I was not familiar with the tune.

Glad they mentioned "The First Lady of Television", Faye Emerson. Wish there had been more on Broadway Open House, another original show that was a forerunner of Tonight. Some clips of that show survive.

If you search Broadway Open House on the Uncle Earl's Classic TV Channel site, you will find two episodes from Dec 14, 1950 and Jan 30, 1951. I believe some of the original commercials are included.

The Ford Consevatives mistakenly tried the same overreach by giving the police the extra powers of stopping any person to ensure they were on an "essential" trip. The reaction was immediate and negative. It is one thing to stop a suspected impaired driver, but to arbitrarily stop a citizen going about their daily business? NOT!!   When it comes to media in Canada, I suspect most people have never heard of the CRTC, haven't a clue what simsub is and don't care. As long as they get Wheel/Jeopardy at 7pm, it doesn't matter to Mr. and Mrs. Front Porch whether they are watching on YES or WIVB. Now Bill C-10 comes along and all the news talking heads are discussing it. The average citizen might be curious as to why this piece of government legislation is so important that it is getting so much media attention. When the explanation is forthcoming, eyes start to glaze over. When it is dumbed down to "Grandma's Cat Videos" might get censored, outrage is the reaction. Martha get the pitchforks! If that is what it takes for the average Canadian to oppose this bill, so be it.

Yes. My internet service comes from Rogers. Nord VPN has introductory offer of 2 years for $89 US. Express VPN is a bit more expensive. Their beginner's offer is 15 months for the price of 12. $100 US.

You may have missed this reference in my original post. As noted, a VPN is necessary to watch it, something I only occasionally run into on YouTube. Unfortunately, this is one of those times.

Being an inveterate cheapskate, I resisted getting a VPN for many years. But now that I have one, I can't imagine going online without it. They're not that expensive and they really do open up the world if you choose a good one. I use Nord VPN, but there are others.

Express VPN would be another excellent choice.

So the new crop of late night talking heads are being paid in the 15M range in 2017. Probably a bit more in 2021. 30 years ago, Johnny Carson was earning 25M. While Colbert consistently has more viewers than Kimmel and Fallon, he does not dominate the way Carson did over Griffin and Cavett.

I still have Rogers Digital cable, until at least March 2022. I am not sold on Ignite as I have read some stories of unhappy customers on various Rogers Community Forums. An antenna is not an option for me because  1. I don't have a balcony to attach it and 2. my apartment faces north so no Buffalo reception. I am in the very early stages of reseaching the IPTV world. Fellow SOWNYite Radiowiz has kindly given me a few tips to point me in the right direction. I have plenty of due diligence ahead of me before making a final decision. I find the ustvgo.tv site useful, particularly so for the Super Bowl.

Thanks for posting this RA. It is definitely NOT a waste of 100 minutes of your life. When I watched many of these groups perform on Ed Sullivan. American Bandstand etc. I sometimes wondered if they were playing their own instruments. After watching this doc, clearly that was not the case. a lot of lip synching too.

Watching Jimmy Kimmel Live! last night, noticed a few of the CNN promos for The History of Late Night TV.  This is rare for CNN to do this on another network but it is a smart move.  I am sure they did the same on the Tonight Show and Stephen Colbert among others.

Another odd one is FOX buying time on CNN to promote their series Let's Be Real which returns tomorrow.  This looks to be like the British Spitting Image program with politicians as caricature puppets.  FOX has had quite a few commercials for this show on CNN over the past week.

Tonight an ad for the Late Night documentary ran on USA during an SVU episode.

The only regular season NHL games on the main NBC network were telecast Sunday afternoons. All the others were on NBCSN. I believe the NHL is getting 850M per season in this new contract. However, I don't know if that is what ESPN is paying or whether that includes the TNT/TBS portion. That works out to almost 6B over the seven years. It will be interesting to see where the NHL ends up. I suspect ESPN will continue to give the NBA primary coverage on the main network with the NHL showing up on ESPN2 for most games.
