Reminds me of 680 News with their constant "through the overnight", as in, "It's going to rain throught the overnight".  No it isn't!  It's going to rain overnight.  Overnight isn't a noun, you can't say "the overnight".  Many different people use the phrase.  It's like 680 has a style guide of how not to speak English with all the incorrect things they all say.  Don't get me started on "gold is $6200 THE ounce" or oil is "$100 THE barrel"....  I'd rather listen to a Spence commercial than these guys butchering English.

680 News is the absolute worst for speaking English properly.  I turn it off everytime I hear "gold is $xxx THE ounce" or "oil is $xxx THE barrel".  Learn about indefinite vs definite articles.  Little kids speak better than that.  Or "rain will continue THROUGH THE OVERNIGHT"??  Who talks like that?  My kid doesn't come to me and say, "I'm going to be staying over at Billy's place through the overnight".  It's just "overnight".  Why add extra words that aren't even grammatically correct?  Or for traffic, "the right lane is SHUT".   How about "closed"?  So many mispronunciations and outright grammatical mistakes on 680 News.  They really need an editor!!

I have to disagree.  With Apple CarPlay, or Android Auto, streaming is super easy.  It can all be controlled by voice if you don't want to play with buttons.  You ask for a song, album or playlist and it plays.  Easy peasy.  The abundance of larger data plans now makes it even more attractive.  You can use an app like TuneIn to listen to real radio stations too.  I use Spotify and when I start up the car, it just continues playing whatever I was last listening to.

Back in my teen days, CFNY played music that we couldn't find on any other station but the likes of David Marsden (thanks Mars Bar!) and the Live Earl Jive made you stick around for the evening and enjoy the show!  I still remember being on the phone with the Mars Bar while he searched through their many, many LPs, on air, to find and play my request.  You don't get that kind of service any more!

I've been listening to, and DXing, Toronto area radio since I was 8 (I'm 61 now!) so I'm aware of all the stations around.  I'm also aware of the protections that are in place.  What I'm saying it that I don't see why these protections are necessary in many cases.  None of the stations that you've listed put any kind of signal into Toronto and a low powered Toronto station isn't going to cause any interference to them.  Not allowing second adjacent assignments in a city no longer makes sense.  Radios are selective enough these days.  Look at the Detroit or New York radio dials.  There is a station on every other channel and they all co-exist just fine.  Heck, look at the Toronto dial.  Nobody has trouble tuning 98.7 next to 99.1.  Anyway, given the lack of available frequencies left in the area, I'm just suggesting that perhaps it's time for the powers that be to take another look at these protections.

Exactly!  I don't understand why anyone would want 106.5 with WYRK there.  I'm in the west end of Toronto and whenever there was even a little skip from the Buffalo area, WYRK would actually cover Elemnt.  It's just a poor choice.  There are so many second adjacents that are clear in Toronto, I don't get the reasoning behind not assigning them but assigning a frequency co-channel with another station instead.  Radios are more than selective enough these days to eliminate any interference complaints from the big guns on the CN Tower and FCP.  89.9, 90.7, 100.3, 104.9, 106.7, 107.5 are all clear downtown.  I know there are stations on many of those, but none of them have strong signals in Toronto like 96.7, 105.3 or 106.5, all of which have been assigned in Toronto.  Sort of related, I was surprised that Ryerson didn't ask for 89.9 instead of 1280.  I'm sure CIUT and CJBC wouldn't have cared.

Oh, yes, I am aware.  You are quite correct about Radio Arina being the previous station on HD4.  My comment was just to state that the logo is still there, possibly months after the station left the air.  They should really take it down.

Unfortunately, the amount of electromagnetic interference seems to be increasing daily too.  Try again during a power outage.  It's amazing how clean the band is then.  It's like when I was a kid dxing back in the early 70s.

For those in Toronto with HD, give a listen to CIRV-FM, 88.9, HD-4.  They've been playing a recorded loop for at least a month now looking for "producers" who want to run programming on their HD-4 channel in the languages that they list.  There was a Farsi station on HD-4 previously, Radio Arina.

IIRC, "I'm on top" was a reference to their antenna move to the CN Tower.

There are just so many classic rock artists that just never get played.  Other than "Another Brick in the Wall", where is the Pink Floyd? Styx? David Bowie? Van Halen? Supertramp?  to name a few big names with large catalogs of music that we never hear on the radio.  97 Rock from Buffalo used to play a great variety of classic rock.  Unfortunately, they get wiped out by Radio Humber here in central Etobicoke.

And "The Boys in the Bright White Sports Car" should never, ever be played.  What a vacuous song!
