I remember reading an article about the 1960's series "The Fugitive". There were 30 hour-long (52 minute) episodes per season and David Janssen, being in almost every scene, was near exhaustion at the end of each season.

New episodes from January to June only has been the norm for a few years now.

RadioActive wrote:

If you're a fan of CBC Radio's "Under The Influence" about advertising, you're going to be in for a long wait for the next word from your sponsor. The last episode of the season aired Thursday, with the traditional "Listeners Questions" segment.

The show will return but if previous seasons are any indication, it will be a long time until you hear a new episode. Unlike many shows that return in the fall, this one isn't likely to be back on air until sometime in January - around seven months from now. There may be reruns in the timeslot until then, but that's an awfully long time to not have any fresh shows.

The good news is the show has been renewed and will back eventually.

I recall hearing that Arnold Lanni (one-half of Frozen Ghost, along with Wolf Hassel) had purchased the rights to Sheriff's catalogue from the other band members after Sheriff broke up.

When the song became a hit in the late 80s, Lanni apparently became pretty wealthy as a result.

Lorne wrote:

Wikipedia doesn't say that it entered the Billboard chart at #26, which would have been an extremely high debut position for a band that had never reached the top 40 before; it states that "the song re-entered the Billboard Hot 100 on 26 November 1988." (It actually re-entered the chart at #84.) Also, it was just two members of Sheriff that went on to form Frozen Ghost, with two others opting to form Alias with some former members of Heart when their former bandmates declined to re-form Sheriff.

With all respect RA, I would guess that anyone who urgently needs to know the weather forecast isn't waiting for it on the noon or 6 PM newscast, OR there are fewer and fewer of these people as time passes.

With sites like The Weather Network, Environment Canada, and windy.com waiting until the bottom of the hour (or whenever it usually ) isn't necessary.

RadioActive wrote:

In the end, all I'm really asking is not to delay the weather or some other key component of a newscast for fluff. It's irritating to viewers who depend on that kind of information. And yes, some may find it interesting, although for the life of me, I have no idea why. But put it lower in the newscast. There's absolutely no reason to put it so high in the line-up.

RadioActive wrote:

Never heard this story before, but apparently when NBC decided to air the very first Star Trek in 1966, they picked the one episode the cast disliked the most. In a "who knew?" revelation, the network was afraid that some of the better sci fi plots they did would be too offputting to a general audience who had never seen a show like it before, so they picked the blandest and easiest one to relate to.

The result was "Man Trap," a script that most of the cast, including William Shatner and Leonard Nimoy, thought was one of the weakest of all the scripts in Season

RadioActive wrote:

The Toronto Sun's story on this hearing reveals yet another side to what it calls Derringer's "sexist pig" arrogance.

“I know I can be difficult but I’m good at the job. That’s all that matters,” he said, as he leaned back in his chair at the downtown hearing.

“They’re not staying if they’re not doing the job. That’s at the heart of the way I work. You can mock that, you can disagree with it, you can think I’m a total jerk for the way that I operated but if I had to do it again, I’d do it the exact same way from that standpoint."

You won't be reading much more about this for a while. The hearing won't resume until August.

I think that people who desire well-written books and articles will still seek out those authored by humans. I hope there's enough of them to sustain that business.

I loved Seinfeld, but have never seen a single episode of Trailer Park Boys. The subject just doesn't interest me. I tried to watch Schitt's Creek, which won a record nine Emmys in 2020. But I was done after two episodes. It just didn't make me laugh. It just shows how subjective comedy can be.

"Schitt's Creek" was, for me, a slow burn. It took most of season one to hit its stride.

I expected some kind of "grievance tour" - podcasts, rival stations or something.

Could Corus have made him being silent a condition of the settlement?

I can't say that I've heard any of this on the radio, but I've seen/heard plenty of YouTube videos with text-to-speech narration (which isn't technically AI, but soulless all the same).

It seems pretty easy to catch with weird inflections, or none at all. Strange pronunciations are also an easy tell.
