SOWNY » After 43 years, Roger Christian is out at Buffalo's Star 102.5 » September 6, 2019 7:55 pm

Did he leave of his own accord?  I recall him not only doing middays on Majic 102, Q102 and Star 102.5, but he also did morning cut-ins between Stereo Rock music sets at least as far back as 1980, if not longer.

I'll say ....lol - kudos to both of you for working out differences and getting on with Real Talk!    I'm looking forward to the eppy.

I think if you just give it some time, you'll eventually "warm up" to it
(Thank you, thank you - I'm here all week folks!)

I have my parents' portable Westinghouse radio (similar to the form factor your Sony is Fitz).  I'll have to dig it out and photograph it.  It still sounds good.

Why do I want to guess at Hitachi?  Is that possible Fitz?

SOWNY » Do You Remember Your Very First Radio? » July 8, 2019 11:18 pm

It was a small Westinghouse AM radio that took a 9-volt battery.  I also had a headphone AM-radio that was red and white.  Again, it took a 9-volt battery.

This is an awesome listen.  I remember living in Cayuga during my teens.  In 1983, I recall the night Karen Carpenter died, and I was listening to WOWO and KYW, and bouncing back and forth between the stations.  Whenever I hear the song "Heart and Soul" bu Huey and the News, I always think of WOWO, because I heard it on WOWO during a DX listen.

Bingo!  Thank you sooooo much!

SOWNY » 1972 Campus Radio Aircheck Video » July 3, 2019 7:30 pm

Hi Folks!  I need some help on this one.

Awhile back, someone here (I think it was either Fitz or RadioActive), posted a video of a 1972 aircheck from a LA radio station.  It included about an hour of unscoped material, and I wanted to find one of the songs on it.  I PM'd Fitz, but that was over a week ago, and I thoroughly checked his "Universe" site without success.

Does anyone remember the video I'm speaking of?

About a year ago, I came across this video of Lorne and Wally from 1991.  Just listen to Lorne's voice on this aircheck.  It's exactly how I wish I could sound.  What a voice!

What about Desiree, by Neil Diamond?  Maybe not a huge hit, but it starts with "It was the third of June".

Wow!  I'm really taken aback by this news.  So unbelievably sad!

SOWNY » Is AM radio dead? Or does it still serve a purpose? » March 14, 2019 11:10 am

Apparently MCA Records never serviced this version (or anything like it) to AM radio stations.  The edit uses "Aja" for the "A" part.  I tried recreating a better-quality edit on my own, but there is a jazzy percussion on the "Aaaaaay" syllable in "Aja", that's tricky to remove.

I thought this was clever.  I never knew AM stations did this back in the day.  I never remembered hearing it.

SOWNY » Let The Puns Begin! Old Public Toilet Being Turned Into Radio Station » March 8, 2019 2:21 pm

Hey if they wanted to cover Toronto sports, there's a fitting story regarding the Argos recently.  Can anyone guess?

SOWNY » Let The Puns Begin! Old Public Toilet Being Turned Into Radio Station » March 8, 2019 8:56 am

Instead of using PPMs to gather ratings, you need an overhauled system to gather data on both of the listener types this station would attract.  Hence, we'd use P-BMs

If "potty" mouth callers go awry on-air, there's always the "dump" feature

So would their biggest listeners be their Pee-One's?

Hopefully some "solid" results.
Initially it might need a bit of a push.
Hopefully, they won't "dump" the format too soon.

Sounds like Rock 102 (or Stereo Rock) from the 70s and 80s ...lol
(except they backsold the name and artist)

I was out to a Stoney Creek bar called Carerra's, at the time, and I was playing NTN (or whatever that trivia thingy was.).  That's when I saw the news on one of the bar televisions.  I can't believe it's 25 years ago.
