The TV series is overall far funnier than the movies.
Agreed. Too bad there are only six episodes. What many don't know is Police Squad is a satire of the 1957-60 Lee Marvin cop show M-Squad that ran on NBC. The two theme songs are eerily similar. A few of the scripts too.
I thought the police car trying to park and knocking over the garbage at the start of each Police Squad tv episode was a nice touch!

Weigel Broadcasting Launches ‘WEST’ New Broadcast Channel Devoted to Westerns This Fall
Like RadioActive, I too don’t care much for Westerns, except “The Wild, Wild West”, the original TV series from the 60s starring Robert Conrad. Mind you, it was also partially sci-fi with some peculiar inventions that caught my interest.

If you know that you don’t like Moore’s show, then don’t tune in. I don’t like Alex Pierson’s show, so I avoid it like the plague, but I don’t bitch and moan about it, mind you, I’m usually busy when it’s on.

This looks good and stupid! It will be fun to watch Neeson in a comedic role. I enjoyed the original two movies plus the tv series. I just realized that the lead actors, Liam Neeson and Leslie Nielsen, both have the same initials, the coffee is kicking in…..!
SOWNY » Could The Stanley Cup Playoffs Soon Disappear From Free TV? » June 15, 2025 7:19 am |
I can see it going to pay eventually. The Rogers/CBC deal definitely favours Rogers, since the Corp doesn’t collect any ad revenue, and the CBC would have a huge chunk of programming time to fill if the lose the NHL deal, but Rogers will probably push for streaming as they could make more money.
SOWNY » 80-Yr.-Old Dini Petty Returning To TV With New Talk Show » June 15, 2025 5:53 am |
I have tuned into News Forum a few times quite randomly. Not too bad but it is one of those channels that you can’t rewind if you missed something, which I tend to do! Having worked with Dini years ago, I might tune in to check out her show.

Oops! John Moore just referred to him as "Brian Williams" twice on CFRB! An unfortunate slip of the lip to be sure.
His producer eventually corrected him on air and Moore admitted "I get everybody's name wrong."
Not a good trait for a morning show host...
I just caught that as well, and yes, Moore is not great with names, maybe some Red Bull in the Morning? Still, I enjoy listening to him while I’m getting up and at ‘er!

I know I will probably warm up to AI, but so far I am not impressed with its use for research/writing articles etc, plus most of the images I have seen generated using it are always “off”, some of them remind me of bad van-art from the 70s! I know, it will get better, eventually.

Impressive to read that Crave has over 4 million subscribers as they have serious US competition. I have enjoyed it for a few years now and I appreciate that they invest in Canadian programming, their comedies aren’t too bad, eh!

SOWNY » A TV First: CNN To Air Live Broadway Play Starring George Clooney » June 9, 2025 8:14 am |
Although I recorded this, I did watch the first half live and thought it was really well done! The sets combined with projected imagery were excellent, and the acting was as you would expect. My only criticism was that the audio was out of sync by about 10 frames, for you old school video pros.
I think I have a workaround to watch the rest of it, play the recording on the tv and sync the audio off my iPad, going to try that as having edited for years, sync issues drive me nuts!

As much as I enjoy streamers I do think it is our country, so our rules. They are all doing fairly decent business in Canada, so cough up! The only problem is that the cost will be passed on to the consumer.

Triumph has received a great deal of press on this plus online plays. My late brother-in-law was their sound and light manager, remember their light show? It was quite the thing back in the day!

SOWNY » Another TV station shuts down - CHAT-TV » June 5, 2025 8:42 am |
Last night I was listening to As It Happens on Radio One and they were interviewing Dan Reynish, who was the news anchor at CHAT TV. It was going ok until he started to cry, and this happened a couple of times. I really felt for the guy, he was upset about not serving the Medicine Hat community anymore but especially by the fact that they didn’t get to sign off with their audience, a bit of closure for them.
Nowadays when you’re let go from broadcasting, chances are, that’s it. Another good reason to weep I guess. Sad that.
SOWNY » Remembering “The Spaceman” Gary Bell » June 5, 2025 8:26 am |
I must admit that I tuned in to his show a few times. He often went off on theories that were somewhat convoluted, but did make a point eventually! I remember tuning in one evening and his show was gone, so I moved on too. I did find him fairly chill though!

I think laffin makes a good point here. Telecoms should have stuck to what they know. They have basically gutted every newsroom, both radio and TV in this market. However, I do wonder how many broadcasters would be gone by now had they not been bought up. Damned if you do…..

Thanks for sharing paterson1, there were songs charted here that I had completely forgotten about, like “Butterfly” by Danyel Gerard, which is a French song, I also remember an English version but by who, no idea!
