I see point 4, but hardly anything to cheer about. Still very low. They should have gone Country.

Not sure where he is getting his 12+ numbers. Might be an earlier draft? I got mine from the Numeris site. They used to list 2+ but have now gone to 12+, in line with the diaries.

First full ratings period for "Today Radio." Brutal. 0.3.

2nd to dead last.

Still waiting on the money demo numbers.

Kiss going HotAC proved to be a good move, though.

My point was, a format that might work in one market or region, will not automatically work in Toronto. These pressers are all put together in 5 minutes and it shows.

The concept behind 93.5 Today Radio has already proven extremely popular elsewhere, with similar stations launching in Edmonton, Calgary, and Winnipeg. In both Alberta cities, the format is consistently among the top-ranked in the market.

The Variety Hits/Adult Hits Jack/Bob format is very popular out west too. Failed in Toronto, NYC, Chicago...

And to bring it back to SOWNY, Carson was doing swing at Kiss 92.5 a couple of decades ago, pre-Jack.

A 90s, 00s, and 10s format to complement their 70s, 80s, 90s one? Didn't they try that during the later stages of MOVE when they started introducing more Pop/Rock titles to the playlist?

It was the initial format of MOVE, yes. There wasn't any rock/alt though. Largely called "Rhythmic AC" at the time.

Yes, I'm quite familiar with the Rhythmic AC format. But I do seem to remember a smattering of pop/rock titles being added later... Roxette comes to mind.

iHeart in the US tried what you're suggesting with GenX Radio, but it didn't go anywhere. Modern AC had more legs years earlier, but ultimately didn't last either. I do like the idea, though. Perhaps a more focussed version of GenX, without the Hip-Hop and Alternative extremes.

I had forgotten that MOVE was still a NewCap property back then.

94.7 New York abandoning Country last fall kind of puts a dent in that argument.

I beg to differ. There was enough singing to make me tune out. Some of that singing was way too much noise.

I've listened to Crystal Radio pretty steadily the last couple of years and never heard vocals exceeding 25% of the playlist, so I know you aren't listening to it, at least not recently. Maybe 10 years ago? I'm sure Iain would set the record straight.

Crystal Radio's website now goes to an Ajax weather page, and I'm no longer able to play it on TuneIn or Streema. I'd hate for the station to disappear - such a great station doing the Beautiful/Easy Listening format. Perhaps our esteemed former moderator can chime in?

3/4 of their CHRs in the top 25 markets is a "strong" statement.

KOOL FM did Hot AC pretty successfully for over a decade with non-hits. But I agree, not likely gonna happen with HOT.

Not quite. Here's their latest playlist and aside from the April Wine and Pursuit of Happiness tracks I don't belive the others have been driven into the ground. Could not copy and paste properley to include the artists but it seems at this point they are more than 60 % cancon.

Here's a few suggestions for them.

Tanquility Base. The group Ian Thomas was in:

from metro/Ryan TumiltyA group that was passed over to provide Indigenous programming on radio stations in Toronto and Ottawa is calling on the federal government to overrule a CRTC decision from last week. The CRTC granted licences to operate FM stations in Edmonton, Calgary, Vancouver, Toronto and Ottawa to groups proposing to do Indigenous programming in those markets.

First People’s Radio, a division of the Aboriginal People’s Television Network (APTN), won the licences in Toronto and Ottawa over the Wawatay Native Communication Society.
John Gagnon, CEO of Wawatay, said they had support letters from Indigenous communities and argued their program was better than APTN’s and they should be getting the concession. “Our people declared what they wanted and somehow a mid-level bureaucrat overturned that,” he said at a news conference on Parliament Hill on Wednesday. The CRTC’s decision to grant the licence can be overturned through a federal appeal court, and Gagnon said they’re prepared to go that way if necessary. But he said they’d rather the government step in and overturn the CRTC decision.“We would like to see the government stand up,” he said. “We would like to see something that is returned quickly.”

That's an absolute cop out.  Good Grammar is grammar. Using software as a crutch is only displaying the ineptitude of the writer.

Things' ain't grammer or nice riting dun good 'cept if people no how to talk good. lol rotfl,

It's not an excuse for bad grammar, it's a tool. Like spellcheck, a good dictionary or a thesaurus. Their purpose is not meant to enable bad writers. Without an editor or proofreader, even the best of us can make the odd spelling mistake or grammatical error.

And there are typos galore. "The city issues extreme cold weather alerts are issued when temperatures are expected to plunge to -15 C or colder." I have too many "issues" with that sentence.

Then there's this:

"To report a weather-related health problems, Torontonians can call the city at 311." Either lose the "a" or lose the "s" on problems. Otherwise, it's grammatically incorrect.

I'm not normally a stickler for this kind of thing, but this is a perfect example of a story that's not really much of a story, which is, essentially,  it's cold outside! But that's not enough for a decent yarn, so it's padded.

I hate to admit it and I'm not being hypocritical, but I've done it myself too many times to count. One of the dangers of a one-fact story.

Problem is, those sentences have no typos in terms of spelling. Since most living breathing editors were fired in favour of "running a spellcheck", these grammatically incorrect sentences will always make it through that "editorial net". A human editor is required to catch every other nuance of writing.

There have been "grammarcheck" programs/apps for years. One would think that software specifically developed for journalists and news gathering organizations would be available by now.

- from InsideRadioThe latest copyright infringement lawsuit against a radio group is crossing U.S. borders. Los Angeles-based photography company FameFlynet Inc. has charged Canadian broadcaster Evanov Radio Group with using three images on the website of its rhythmic CHR “Z103.5” CIDC Orangeville, ON without permission.FameFlynet’s lawsuit is filed with the U.S. District Court’s Southern District of New York because the accuser says that the station—which is located in the Toronto region— and the website are “both marketed and readily available to residents to a large area of New York.”

In the suit obtained by Inside Radio, the three allegedly infringed photos are described as: “Shia LaBeouf and longtime girlfriend Mia Goth have gotten engaged” in one, and two different images captioned with “Mia Goth showing off her giant ring as she and Shia step out in Los Angeles.”
As with so many similar suits, FameFlynet is asking for “up to $150,000 per infringement” plus court costs, as well as a trial to prove damages. The photography company earlier sued Cox Media Group, Ingstad Radio and other broadcasters.http://www.insideradio.com/free/new-copyright-photo-suit-stretches-north-of-the-border/article_201d8a52-94af-11e6-9b0f-0fe5b7e01b25.html
