WCJW AM-1140 in Warsaw New York -- a daytimer -- has five FM translators. 1140 can be heard semi-regularly in Port Huron an hour or two before sunset.

Meeting Robin remains the highlight of this day. He was generous with his time and compliments, and his memory was sharp. I'm glad I attended. I almost didn't go. Credit also goes to the Reunion planners for having the event in 2019 while Robin could travel, and not in 2020 for the 100th anniversary of radio.

I didn't know this until I heard it on SNB the Saturday after his death on April 4. "Lovedrops" wasn't played on any of the Michigan stations I listened to, and pre-dated the CANCON rules that would have insured its play on CKLW's Million Dollar Weekends.

From this morning's Detroit Free Press. Now TV news, like the cultures it covers, will look even more slapdash and DIY. It might become the latest trend in broadcast news. Anchors reporting while propped up in bed. All of this might be signaling -- no pun intended -- the beginning of the end for the broadcasting station model that we grew up on. The one that comes to mind is the large building(s) where the WXYZ stations were housed; actually called "Broadcast House," built in the late 50s at ch 7's transmitter site in Southfield. No more of that. Everything can be done from home now, and just as well, or good enough to get by these days. The only reason to have a building is to house the transmitter or its control point.

So, since they don't have a broadcast station in their home market, they can give a free stream to their fans while fans of the other 29 teams have to pay on MLB.com.   How is this allowed, and why don't more teams try it?

In 2000 the Expos had no English broadcast radio. They streamed only, and the games were on in French on CKAC. That's the year I saw my three Expos games (they lost all of them, to the Giants). CKAC was barely listenable inside Stade Olympique.
 

The plunder trend started with Walmart. Goodbye Main Street, goodbye everything. Radio lasted as long as it did because only until recently has the technology that makes radio plunder possible been perfected.

Maybe they'll have a 100th anniversary QSL card. In 1970, at the time of their 50th anniversary,, they sent the same one they used thru the 70s, and before. I still have mine, with November 2 1970 hand-written in the space for date received. In fact, none of the US stations whose 50th anniversaries happened in the first couple years of the 70s, that I sent reports to, offered commemorative QSL cards.

He was at the radio reunion. I wanted to stop and say hello but had no idea of what I'd say next. I remember seeing him on American Bandstand (once ch 12 in Flint got on the air in 1958) but that has meaning to only me, he's probably heard it a million times and not in a noisy room filled with distractions.

Gold UK has started airing My Pillow ads. The British voice on the spot credits "those brash Americans" for selling all those pillows on this side of the Atlantic.

Saturday night before last on the CBC ... the female newsreader w the French surname twice in the same story pronounced the capital city of that country in South America where all the drugs come from as "bo-GO-ta." (You know the country ... the one that some young print journalists think is correctly spelled "Columbia."). Really no excuse for this anywhere, especially on something that still calls itself the broadcast news source of record in Canada. "BO-go-ta" Colombia isn't some little burg where only the locals know its name isn't pronounced like the name of the well-known city w identical spelling.  And I'm sure the copy didn't phonetically spell the name, because the the editors / copywriters at wherever didn't think it was necessary for BO-go-ta.

He could have said "this is the promised land calling, and the Poorman is on the line."

I always listen to the bi-lingual ceremonies to hear how the non-native speakers sound while speaking their second languages. What I heard was the anchor on CBC radio translating, in English, over the French speakers, their French comments that had just been spoken by others in English. As if not a word of French should ever be heard on the English network even during the Remembrance Day ceremonies. I never heard this before. French radio dumped out of live coverage right after the gun salute. No one who spoke after it was heard on the SRC. I'd be mildly offended and not a little concerned. Even the non-immigrants don't respect tradition (Canada having been a country in name only for a long time now, but that's for a different forum).

The other high (low) light was the CBC reporter live in Ottawa who described what she was seeing at the solemn ceremony in the same bored, whiny, millennial tone of voice we all know and loathe. She sounded like, for lack of a better example, Linda Cullen mimicking Sandie Renaldo on "Double Exposure." Never heard this before either. Or else it wouldn't be worth mentioning the next morning.

WDET at 101.9 in Detroit was originally owned by the United Auto Workers union that donated the station to wayne State University in 1952. WFBE in Flint (Flint Board of Education) signed on in 1953 at 95.1, at a time when Flint had four FM allocations and none were in the non-commercial 88-92 band. The Board sold WFBE in 1997 and it's now country but w the same call letters, branded as B-95 (their logo mascot since day one has been a bee).

Another (new) exception in Ontario is the 91.7 repeater of CIBU in Wingham, licensed to Bluewater, that can be heard on tropo days here, over WUOM Ann Arbor.
