I have IPTV also.   $100 a year for about 13,000 channels.   Now, not all load properly but I can still access most channels of each network worldwide.     Our condo has a bulk deal with Rogers for Ignite TV & internet but I enjoy the IPTV on my iPad.

Any visits I’ve had to Barrie over the last year I’ve tried to get Barrie’s Information Station on 98.5 and no signal.

Was it owned by the same company that has an information station in Gravenhurst?

It was eliminated for most of the country, but last year, it was finally dropped in the Ottawa-Gatineau and Montreal markets, where the English commercial FMs had remained bound by the non-hit rule, to "protect" the French stations in those markets.

From what I recall at the time, the CRTC did say any hit after 1981 was considered a non-hit but I thought that meant an FM station couldn’t play all 50s, 60s, 70s music because they were all hits.    All the CRTC did was change the meaning of what was a hit and what was a non-hit.

Thank you, gents, for correcting me.   I appreciate it.   I hadn’t done my research properly.   I had only noticed it gone in Canada.

Wonder if this will be a new trend - to move soaps to a specialty network.   I guess, much like a majority of sports have been moved from regular networks to specialty channels.

CFOS as we know is hoping to move to the FM dial.  All of the radio stations in Grey/Bruce and Huron counties seem to be surviving.  The area has about 20 stations for a population of 235,000.  The CFOS format is kind of eclectic, a little similar to Zoomer and will sound interesting and unique on FM. CFOS likely still does fairly well in the mornings.

If approved by the CRTC, they’ll have to examine their ratio of 50s/60s/70s hits versus any hits 1981 and older.  Why?   The FM 49% non-hit rule versus 51% hit still applies.   If it’s a hit on any of their approved charts before 1981 then it’s a “CRTC hit” but any top 40 hits from 1981 to current are considered “CRTC non-hits”.  As long as the station meets the criteria then they’re good.

They might be able to axe that rule if they choose to simulcast AM on the new FM frequency.   Zoomer Radio 740 and CKDO are doing this already in their markets.

I have noticed more stations this year mixing in some Christmas music with the regular playlist.  This is what was done normally years ago before the ALL CHRISTMAS stations took over.  The stations that mix in the seasonal tunes will increase the amount as we get closer to the big day.

When I worked for a few stations years ago on-air, we’d start Christmas music mixed in with regular Dec 1.   We’d have a schedule starting with one song per hour then increase once a week to start and then every few days till we get to Christmas Day when we are 100% Christmas.      This was late 80’s and 90’s when there wasn’t a lot of current Christmas music.   Now, it’s easier to program 100% Christmas since there’s a lot of artists putting out Christmas albums.      Thank goodness the album project “A Very Special Christmas” in 1987 kicked off the novice idea of current artists taking on classic Christmas music then eventually artists and writers were composing new Christmas songs.      We would decrease seasonal music on Dec 26 & 27.   Notice I said seasonal music.  We would only play winter-themed songs after Christmas because Santa Claus had already come to town so any Santa songs would not be played on Boxing Day and the 27th.  After the 27th we would go back to our regular format as listeners are then thinking New Year’s Eve.

I’m glad the all-Christmas format always gets 98.1 CHFI the #1 spot here in Toronto!   They go all-Christmas in late November and go right through till Dec 31.   Glad the Christmas format is usually a #1 format in North America.

I now have a newer vehicle and take FULL advantage of HD radio for the stations that are AM.

As a former radio music director, I’ve always wanted to know how great programmers like Rosalie, Nevin Grant and many other well-known radio MDs and PDs know what’s going to be a hit.

Is it the musical notes forming a certain musical phrase that just sound so good that it creates a “catchy piece of ear candy” that you can’t help but love what you hear?

Is it the words of the song that make a great story that you just love the song?

Is it a combination of great lyrics and music?

Just curious as to what makes the perfect hit record.

I’m concerned about them being able to fully function as a radio station when they start paying staff.    What concerns me most is the owner has one station - on the AM band - an all-music AM radio station.    I just don’t want them telling staff that pay day will have to be delayed till they get money in

Peet Dictor?   Is that his real name or his radio name?   Sounds more like a good porn name.

I do wish Classic 1220 the very best.

I am the old music director of 1220 CHSC.   I enjoyed my freelance job with them from 2003 to 2010.   The owner was an idiot.   Left a few of us not being fully paid.  He owes me $1,000 which I will never, ever see.

I did call the number of CFAJ asking if they needed an MD (or music scheduler) and they said it was taken care of.   So, no going back to 1220 for me.

Born and raised here in “the six” and I’ve always pronounced our city as Tor-on-toe.

If you worked for the previous owners of CKPC, they made the announcers and newscasters always say BRANT-FORD not Brant-FERD as is most often pronounced.   I think FERD is really the most common pronunciation.

Years ago, when I was music director for the old CHSC in St. Catharines, we had a kid (early 20’s) filling in during the evening show and, I kid you not, he backsold a song by west coast band CHILLY-WACK, not CHILLA-WACK as it should be, CHILLY-WACK.   I nearly hit the roof so I coached him in the correct pronunciation.

I’ve been renting a friend’s car the last few months.   I’m always curious as to a car’s sound system.

Since I didn’t want to install my portable SiriusXM radio, I just moved my subscription to his car radio.  I don’t get all the channels (stations) on my friend’s car that I do on my portable SiriusXM radio.   The car is a 2015.   I’m just looking for my own car now.    If I buy a 2022 with satellite radio, will the car radio have a SiriusXM radio that’s a better model than the one in 2015?    When I swapped my subscription onto the 2015 car, the SiriusXM’s channels weren’t as many as the portable radio’s.        Any way I will know what channels that radio model will receive before I spend $35 to move them over?

I’m also really loving HD Radio.,,,I especially love listening to the AM radio stations available as HD stations on their FM sister stations.    My favourite is Zoomer Radio on 96.3 HD2.   Great hearing oldies in stereo!

Are there CRTC regs for HD stations that aren’t already available on FM?    Does a station have to apply to the CRTC to add an HD station to their current FM station.

I can’t tell the difference between FM and HD just like I can’t see the difference between HDTV and 4KTV.

Have a go at these questions.   Thank you

I remember Anwar on Z103-5 live at the CNE.   I also remember him on The Weather Network.   Hey, nothing wrong with Anwar returning to his weathered roots at TWN.  A job is a job and as Roger Christian from WECK told me and my friend Joe when we visited him at Star 102.5 - “ya gotta do what ya gotta do” to pay the bills.   I live by that quote and am never afraid to apply for a job that may be below the level I’ve worked because you have to still pay the bills.

I do miss Anwar and Tom at CTV Toronto (CFTO) even if I like the two weather ladies they have now.   I miss Tom’s energy and at Christmas for the kids gifts where he’d say “we’re building a toyyyyyy mountain”
