More than that. The company used to be called Clear Channel and was perhaps the biggest in terms of stations owned.Their impact on radio's decline is probably not insignificant but of course there are many other factors to consider there. Multiple listening options now.

Its true.  For one, I dont know anyone within family, co-workers, friends that would listen to a "radio" app unless its a specific program to tune in a bit for sports or news related.  Everyone is running their Spotify or Apple Music hearing what they want to hear (and a much better diverse music selection).

What kind of radio station gives away a vacation as a prize in a contest and then demands the listener pay $200 as a "down payment?" We may never know the name of the actual station involved, but it appears to be in the New York City area and we do know who owns it - iHeartradio.

You can read this bizarre tale here

Unfortunately, the article never says why the winner was charged the money or if she got it back.

The bigger they are/were... ... ...

This won't be the last mega 'media' company to call it a day.  And as horrible as the the current wave of mass ownership is...the next wave will be even worse.  When it comes to propaganda and lies and out and out dangerous broadcasters with no ethics whatsoever... ... ...well... ... ...fasten your seat belts.  But hey!!!  Quality radio was so WAY the eff 'back when'.  I'm a silly old codger to expect to hear imaginative, unique and interesting programming in the 21st century.  I'm obviously locked in a time-warp...inhaling the lost memories of vinyl, all night show hosts, and live bodies manning the ship on the weekend...you know...when highways were shut down for a slew of different reasons and when various types of fires threatened the safety of local residents.  [back when having a license to broadcast came with some degree of there being a sense of responsibility to the listening area.]

All that is pretty much left to the small little local companies and owners who actually give a rat's ass.   Some don't, of course, but MANY of 'em do.   And that's OK.  Ultimately ... it's the only kinda radio that'll work anyway.  Local.  Local.  Local.  Local info.  Local news/sports/weather.  Some local artists too.  Offer what the folks in town really can't readily access elsewhere and play some decent tunes...for the people listening...not for the folks who aren't gonna listen no matter what.

That i-heart stuff is urine-soaked.  No wonder they're done.  Idiot management.  Dorky programming.  Doesn't matter when the hey-day was...Great is great.  Good is good.  And pure unadulterated crap is gonna go under.  B'Bye.

That they named their new updated I Heart Radio app "2.0" is puzzling. Calling anything "2.0" in 2018 is lazy, unimaginative, and verging on retro considering the age range of their younger listeners.

Revenue is fine.  Programming is fine. In fact they're near the top of the ratings in most markets.  They just bought too much debt pure and simple.
