Max Haines Goes To His Final Mystery

Just noticed that former Sun crime writer Max Haines passed away a few days ago. Haines wrote a number of books about true crime and made frequent appearances on radio stations around Toronto, whenever someone wanted to relive a notorious murder or fiendish felony. He had a great sense of humour and told a story like few others, both verbally and in print.

He was 86.

Here's a link to a very rare promo from the old CJCL 1430, promoting Haines's appearance on John Donabie's afternoon show.

Re: Max Haines Goes To His Final Mystery

Radio Active.  Thank you for sharing this post.  I had no idea.

Back in 1979 Max was a regular on my network TV show called Afternoon Delight; on CBC.  Always a smile and a very, very bright man.  Later he would join me; on a regular basis at CJCL & CFRB.  The Pink Panther's theme was the segment's theme song.  What a wonderful wonderful man.  I'm shocked at this news.  When he would call me; instead of saying Hello, he would say to me......

"Lizzie Borden took an axe
She gave her mother 40 whacks
When she saw what she had done
She gave her father 41

That was his way of saying "hi this is Max."  What a sense of humour.

RIP Max.  You were a large part of my life.

My thoughts and sympathies go out to his wife Marilyn, whom he was always talking to me about & his family.
