[Via CKNW]

A large grass fire is burning in Burns Bog in Delta at this hour.

The fire is burning between 76th and 80th street south of River Road. Delta Mayor Lois Jackson says the fire has now grown to 10 hectares in size, and is moving east.

burns bog fire (2)Drive BC reports Highway 17 has been closed in both directions between Highway 99 and the Highway 91 connector.

There are also reports the fire is threatening to jump the highway itself into an adjacent industrial area.

There’s been no word yet about what may have sparked the flames.

The fire has also damaged the AM 730 transmitter. The station is off air, but can still be listened to at am730.ca or through the am 730 app.

BC Hydro crews are also on scene, with word they may need to shut down power lines running through the area.
