Weekend for SickKids raises over half a million

(Via NewsTalk 1010)

Congratulations to everyone a NT1010 involved with this weekends Hospital for Sick Kids radiothon.

I know how much preparation and work goes into something like this, and taking nothing away from any of the kids, at the hospital, it's worth noting the emotional strain it puts on the talent on-site.  I'll be honest, I can't do it.  I need 2 ativan just to walk into the atrium.  Ever since my kids were born I'm just a wreck at that place, every sick kid I see, I see my little guys faces.

Anyway, congratulations.  Half a million dollars raised over the weekend, with more coming in.

-------------------

Through the generosity of listeners like you, the Weekend for SickKids has raised over half a million dollars for Toronto's Hospital for Sick Children.

NEWSTALK 1010 teamed up broadcast partners TSN 1050, 104.5 CHUM FM, and 99.9 Virgin Radio Saturday and Sunday to bring you stories of the families who have turned to facility in trying times.

Ted Garrard, President and CEO of the SickKids Foundation says the community's support is vital to the hospital.

"What you've done is make sure we can provide the best possible care we can to these kids," Garrard said Sunday. "To have the best technology and medical equipment. To do the research that leads to new discovery that allows us to improve the treatment that these kids can get. To train the next generation of paediatric specialists. To make sure that we've got the right doctors, the right nurses, the right professionals that provide the world-class care that these kids receive."

You can still give to SickKids by becoming a Miracle Club member at a cost of $20/month. You can also register to participatein The Canaccord Genuity Great Camp Adventure Walk benefiting SickKids on Sept. 26

Re: Weekend for SickKids raises over half a million

Congrats to my friends and former co-workers at Newstalk 1010 (and CHUM FM, and TSN 1050).  I never worked at Virgin, although it was in the same building at 2 St. Clair West as Newtalk 1010.

It's a great charitable tradition started by Allan and Gary Slaight when 1010 was owned by Standard Broadcasting and thankfully for Sick Kids Hospital, Bell Media continued on with it.
