12:36.ca's Twitter feed is reporting that Tim Thomas, one of the original free form jocks at the classic CHUM-FM from the 70s, has passed away. No immediate word on the cause or his age.
I remember listening to him in the days when 104.5 had an unrestricted format and you could actually talk between records. A real talent. Condolences to his family.
RIP Tim Thomas

sad that the old greats are leaving us while the potential new talent is nothing more than corporate fodder for the bottom line.

Tim and I worked together at CHUM-FM; in what was called the underground....progressive....hippy dippy days of radio. It was indeed my favourite time period; in my career. Tim was one of the smartest people I ever worked with and he had a great sense of humour.
RIP Tim.

The radio that I heard as a youngster when Tim was on CHUM FM is amongst the best that I remember. He went on to CHOM FM as PD and then returned to CHUM FM after the golden era around 1975. I also remember him working briefly for CHFI or CKFM maybe around 1976/77. Did not like the format he was on but was glad to hear his voice. Also read a while back that he worked for the CBC I believe in the prairies.

Here's an article about Chuck Azzarello that also mentions Tim Thomas and a lot of other radio personalities from the era.
