CFRB Host & Activist Desmond Cole Confirms He's Not Running For Mayor

There'd been a lot of speculation that Desmond Cole might put his hat in the ring for the upcoming race for Toronto mayor. But on his Newstalk 1010 Sunday show, Cole poured cold water on the rumour, officially confirming he has no intention of entering that particular political arena - at least in this go-round.

It would have been interesting if he'd gone for it - that would have meant two CFRB personalities (John Tory being the other one) vying for the same public post. Still, I'm not entirely surprised by his announcement. If he had declared as a candidate, it would have meant he would have had to give up his show at some point, thereby losing one of his most accessible megaphones to the public. (Tory had to relinquish his afternoon drive post at 'RB when he made his decision several years ago, although with the amount of time he comes on the station as a guest, you couldn't be blamed for thinking he still works there!)

Cole lost his regular weekly column in the Toronto Star after he verbally and profanely interrupted a Toronto Police Services Board meeting a year ago this month in a protest over carding. But this may not be the end of these questions about his intentions. He apparently hasn't ruled out a future political run, saying on his 1010 show Sunday that now just isn't the right time.

Kind of like Olivia Chow.  She was seen as a front runner until the campaign happened in earnest and she started talking.  Once she opened her mouth, her campaign was over.

Beyond the social justice stuff how is Cole on the things the average resident really cares about like potholes and garbage collection?
